Default ? about ST3500

Hey I was just wondering how i would get the STR lowered on thi converter. I seem to be forced into alot of street races and I would like to be able to hook up off the line. I will probaly be getting Nittos once my stock tires wear down and it would be great to be able to get the jump off the line. How much would this cost and what would yall recommend I lower it to? I thought about the SY3500 but yall seem to not appreciate this converter... SY3500

Any comments appreciated!! -Matt

You can hook the ST 3500 & 3.23s off the line with nittos on the street pretty well. I kept my Nittos at 26 - 28lbs and you can still launch pretty hard.

I would not lower the STR, the converter is very efficent as designed; I wouldn't risk messing it up. Stall speed is easier to change safely than STR.

For mostly street racing, the SY 3500 is a great choice.

Thanks Ragtop, but do you have any idea why the Super Yank cost about 200 more? Thats another thing i was worried about. I am PRETTY sure i'm going to go with the ST just so i can cut some bad *** 60's at the track on ST streets

I definitely say go with the ST3500 and don't bother messin with the STR. All ya need is some good tires out back and you'll do fine on the street and strip. I love my ST

SY 3500 costs more because the parts are more expensive.

If you're getting ET Streets for track use, definitely get the ST 3500.

Because of the lock-up clutch, your highway mileage will be unchanged...your in town mileage will be directly linked to how heavy your foot is. Most people find they enjoy their cars much more after they've installed the ST3500, and therefore drive much harder...as a result, fuel mileage suffers, but smiles increase dramatically.

Matt, you won't be disappointed with the ST3500. I have the same set up as you including color. I have turned 1.60 60 fts and I'm still experimenting with the launch.Without having the car tuned I'm @ 12.17 @ 109.88 mph w/Stock exhaust w/cut-out. There is a guy here in Houston named Steve Frank that does great installs for $150.00. He even installed the trans cooler at no extra charge. He goes by "STEVE" here and on LS1.com. You can E-mail me and I can get you his number. Good luck.

I run on M/T ET Streets at the drags and on the street. I don't drive around on my ET Streets all the time....but alot of the time. You never know when you're going to get in a good street race

Gas mileage didn't change....at least I didn't even notice a change. The only time fuel suffers is because you're gonna want to get on it ALL THE TIME

Install at any good shop should cost around 200-300 dollars. I wouldn't pay anymore than that. I didn't pay anything cause I installed it myself.

2002 SS...
Not everyone here hates the SY3500. I love it, but I seem to be the only big defender/supporter of it in street applictions on this board.

Read the other thread about ST3500 vs. SY3500 for more info on both sides.
