Default Which rear end gears for TH400

What do all the "DRAG ONLY" cars use for their rear end gear ratios?

My car is a Big shot nitrous car that will be spun to approx. 7k rpms.

Preferrably like to the tires I already have (28") would I need to change that also.

Gears in the 9" are 4.30's

We are running 4.33s and spin to 6500 rpm on a 29.5" tire.

i'd leave the gears alone. unless you plan on trapping over 135mph. if so you could go to a 29" tire which would let you hit 140 with your 7k ceiling. go to http://www.speedworldmotorplex.com/calc.htm
to try out different tire heights and gear ratios till you see what you want.

Thats a good question that I dont know the answer to. I have no idea what my car will mph in the 1/4. I would hope to think that it would mph 135 no problem. Looking 2 make near 800rwhp on the bottle.

I would like to leave the 4.30's in there since they are already set up.

i think a step down to a 3.73/3.90 would be good to stay on the 28" tire. I just like allowing myself some extra room. I'm in the same situation with the same gears and going to a 3spd trans as well(TH350).

motor should put down 450 at the wheels and then the motor could see anywhere up to 2 stages equaling 350.

with that you should only see 650-700 at the wheels. is your 350 estimation based at 350whp of nitrous or just a 350 shot? also should and will are two different things. good luck but i would leave the gears alone till you find out what you're crossing the traps at.

i'm with that cause that's what i had planned, i just think that's the gearing i'm gonna need. but i'm aiming for certain mph. you have to factor in the weight of your vehicle as well for the total "combination"
