Default new to A4s need advice

My other two LS1s are M6s, and I think I want to buy an A4 this time. The car: 2001-2002 WS6 t-top or vert(can't decide), will have a head/cam package and I want a stall converter. Something to really help the car. I don't want a stall thats gonna kill my fuel mileage though and tear up my trans. I was thinking a 2500-3000rpm stall. Yank or Precision? What gears should I get in the rear? Or keep the 3.23s? These A4s are so damn confusing.

Vig 3200 it stalls at 3800, but I've never heard anyone complain about it not being streetable or sucking up gas.

As far as gears, with H/C you're going to want to go w/ 3.73's to move you into the powerband down the 1/4. You should stay w/ the 3.23's at first though to see what they do for ya.

Steve

Don’t waste your time on a 2500/3000 stall. Get 3500 or bigger. However, on a heads cam car, a ‘verter rated at 3000 stall will probably stall more like 3500+ anyway.

RPM WS6,

Not true. A stock displacement heads cam car will change the rated stall very little over stock. Most h/c motors make more torque above 4000 rpms over stock, but below they're not much stronger. It's the 2500-4000 rpm torque reading that determines the stall of a converter. A 422 makes a lot more torque at 2500-4000 rpms...that's why it makes a converter stall more, but a h/c cam motor won't hardly affect the stall at all unless you get a 4000+ stall converter.

Patrick, thanks for the explanation. I guess I was thinking more towards guys already running 4000+ stalls gaining extra stall with heads/cam.

ST 3500 would be a good choice. PI 2800 or SLP 3300 would be as small as I would go.

I'm extremely pleased with my YANK ST3500. It's seriously the best $1,000 ever spent in my opinion. I went from a 13.8 to a 13.0 and the 60' went from 2.1 to 1.7 on Drag Radials. Mine is also a daily driver and gas mileage was noticeably hurt, but not much. Depends on how you drive, I haven't gotten a whole tank of gas where I haven't been racing the snot out of it half the time - yes a converter will bring out the little bit of John Force in each of us.
