Default converter accessories 5 basic questions!!!

im about to install a converter (3500 stall) for a future ls6 headed and fm14 camed car .....What mods should i do along with the torque converter to help out the tranny..spifically:

1: for this power range (500-550 bhp) is there a reason for a upgraded flex plate?

2: synthetic fluid or regular atf?

3: deep pan worth it....?

4: if i got my tranny tuned with hp tuners (shifts great as of now) should i also do a shift kit or is this a waste of time?

5: what seals should i replace while im in there pan gasket, pump seal..?

the car is a 2002 t\a with boltons 20k miles weekend driven most of the miles are hard miles this is not a hwy cruser the car is strictly taken out for amusemnt...see sig for actual current mods

thanks,
john

1. Yes, the 2002 flexplates are weak and get the TCI SFI Flexplate
2. Stay with Dexron III and no synthetic. It cause slippage.
3. No, The external cooler for better for cooling. If you want a drain plug, get the kit for NAPA for $6.
4. Do either programming or a shift kit. Do not both.
5. The front pump seal and tailshaft seal. If you suspect pump leakage then, do the pump oring.

What he said. As far as fluid goes, I've had lots of luck mixing Type F fluid with the Dextron III. Makes the clutches grippier. Synthetics make them slipperier...not good.

The 2002 flexplate can crack with a cam only car. If you can find a 1998 F-Body Flexplate, you would be better off. As far as the fluid, just use Dexron III. I use Valvoline High Mileage and it works great.

The flex plates DO crack (I'm speaking from experience), but I caught mine before it exploded as many others have experienced. It will cost a lot more if you wait and find out the hard way. I have pics if you like.

Yes, it's for safety, they do crack and come apart and your already there so that's the best time to do it.

I regret not doing it 5 months ago when I had the tranny out, but I'm doing it now.
