Default Tranny temp gauge off 30 degrees?

Ok i installed my auto meter gause in my car and it was reading 225 so i get under the car with a very expensive little heat probe and touch the fitting that the sensor is screwed into and it reads 195.
Now when i bought this gauge it didn't copme with the sender so auto meter sent me one seperatly. you think they sent me the wrong one? or you think the gauge or the sender could be bad?
i have it installed in the fluid out going line to the cooler. where the fluid is the hottest.
Anyone know the ohm values for the corresponding temps on the auto meter sender?
