Usually, people that end up going with less than 3500 are not quite happy and wish they got more. Many of them end up getting bigger stalls later. 3000 to 3300 stalls will work just find for your application, and probably won’t cost you much ET (not that it really matters much as you said that you rarely go to the track), but a 3500 really isn’t as big as it sounds. As long as it’s a lock up ‘verter (which all Yanks are) above 40 it’ll feel like stock no matter which you get, till you stomp on it.

I too thought I wanted a Y3000 long ago, but I couldn’t be happier that I ended up choosing a 3500. I’d say that only 1 to 5% of the people that get stalls end up saying they wish they got lower, but probably 50% or more end up wishing they got higher.

The SLP 3300 would also work nicely and you can get the ST in a 3200/3300 stall configuration if you don't want to go with a 3500.

The downside to the PYE 3400 is the reduced shift extension compared to the SY3500 or ST3500. From a roll, those 2 converters will be better. Also the PYE 3400 hits hard off the line. I would think the PYE 3400 requires a little more pedalling on street tires. Maybe Patrick can compare launching the PYE3400 on street tires on the street with a ST3500 since he has driven both.

The ST3500 hits the tires harder than the PY3400E mainly because of its higher stall and lighter weight. The Pro Yank launches VERY clean with little drama...even more streetable than the ST3500. Most will find that the Pro Yank feels better around town than the smaller 9" converters...that's mainly because the larger 10" size of the Pro Yank 3400E has better holding capacity...it just won't be as quick on motor as the 9" converters like the Super Thrusters, but it will KILL them on the spray. I like it for everyday use, even without the spray.

I personally would get the py3600 Extreme if you are so set on Yank. The ST3500 sucks because it likes to throw alot of SES lights. Why not a Precision Industry converter? I love my PI3200 and have yet to be beat by a car that is running a Yank converter.

V-6 Bird, you must not have raced many cars with Yank converters.

Come down to Houston some time...there are tons of F-Bodies running 10s with them. Most of the cars with SES lights that are tranny related are '01 and '02 models. By the way, the reason why you're not seeing many Vigilante cars setting lights is because 90% of the '01 and '02 cars are running Yanks. If the tables were turned, there would be a ton of Vigilante owners complaining about tranny codes. It's not all the converter's fault. It has to do with the tighter pcm management that went into the newer F-Bodies. The '01 and 02s don't like stalls over about 3000 rpms for some reason. What year is your F-Body?

I will have a Pro Yank 3400 (predates the 6-bolt
cover 3400 Extreme, maybe Patrick can verify whether any of the other parameters were changed for the PY3400E) for sale cheap after my ST4000 gets sent out (February ?). The PY3400 is TOO tight with 2.73 gears/no power adder for my tastes (previously owned a Vig2800 in a prior 4th gen also and liked it = 1.69 60' on our crappy tracks)

I should add that it is true the PY3400 is a great around town converter - you'll never know its there unless you REALLY mash the gas! I personally need something with more track performance, and I'm going heads/cam as well so
I want to work the motor up higher in the RPM band to get access to more "average RWHP" .
