Default wont downshift!?

I have a problem with my tranny downshifting. i dont know if it is the tranny or if it is the computer, but if i am cruising along at highway speeds 55-75mph or intown speeds 15-35mph and floor it to WOT the tranny will not downshift, it will just bog down in the gear that it is in. Now if i am going 40mph it will downshift. What is the problem?? has anyone ever seen this problem, what might it be? otherwise gears seem to shift alright, and from a dig the car is alright, it has a slight hesitation when shifting between 1st and 2nd, almost like its bouncing off the rev limiter. i dont understand please help!!

hmmmm..... im not sure..... where do you live, if by some remote chance you live close to Wichita Ks, id be happy to hook my hptuners up to it and see what the settings are. But since that is unlikely, you might post in ur corresponding regional forum and see if there is anyone with hptuners or other programs like it that can take a look. My guess is the car thinks there is something wrong with the transmission and is "babying it". Other than that random guess, are you throwing any codes??? To be honest, i doubt this is a computer related issue, id guess that it is something physically wrong with the transmission. Also there shouldn't be any hesitation on the first to second shift

i dont know what the problem is, maybe the tranny is going, but the cars only got 60k miles on it, isnt that a bit early for the tranny to fail???

Start with the simple stuff.....

Have you checked the fluid level? 4L60E transmissions (what is in your car) are very picky about fluid level. If it's low, all the problems you described can happen.

It might be the torque manegement, u have to tune ur ECU to get rid of it

TM should not cause any issues like that on a stock '98 car (assuming it's stock as he didn't mention and mods). TM doesn't usually become apperent until you have a shift kit or a big stall, especially on a '98 car. '01 and up had a lot more TM issues.

Problem is likely related to a hard parts issue if the fluid level is good, IMO.
