Default TA Girdle install

I am getting ready to do the install for the TA girdle and have found most of the info I need on www.installuniversity.com (great stuff!), but I am not clear on what to do about the aluminum partial cover and line brackets located along the top of the differential. Will these install back on the new cover, or do I need to do something else? I can see that the cover is probably not really needed, but the lines that are held in place surely will need some type of restraint.
Thanks for any help with this.
Randy

You can remove the brackets all together or what I did was go buy two studs, screw them into the diff, install a nut and torque it, install the bracket, then install a washer and another nut, simple.

Don't know if I like creating a weak area in the differential arm. I did receive some info on SLP forum and was told that by switching some longer spacers for shorter spacers incl. w/ the kit at two of the top locations and where the two brackets attach and adding some washers so you can attach the existing brackets looks and works great! Thanks for the idea about attaching studs, probably would look better. I was considering designing a clamp system w/ the same results. I think.
Have a Safe and Happy New Year!

You lose the little metal cover thingies, but the brackets install fine. The TA cover includes 2 longer bolts to use there. No worries.

You can barely see it in this pic:

Dope, thanks for the great pic. After reading the instuctions on installuniversity a little closer....that is mentioned. Should have waited for the instructions that probably covers this whole non-issue. BTW, nice install!
Thanks again for the help..great stuff! BLUEBYU

I think I will re-do mine now. The studs work good but I like this better. My cover did not come with spacers, thicker washers, or even long enough bolts, I had to buy all new bolts that were the right length. Back to the hardware store I go...

Sure thing.

Also, get teflon tape or teflon liquid sealant. Use it on the drain and fill plugs, and those 2 bearing cap thingies (the big plastic nuts). Otherwise you will have a (very) slow leak. No biggie but it'll leave a drop or two everytime you park (after the gear oil heats up it'll weep out a lil).

BTW, what do you torque the main cap bolts to? Bought one used, no directions

The main cap bolts get torqued to 5 ft. lbs. DO NOT OVER TORQUE THESE. I agree with dope about the teflon, they will leak for sure with out it and may leak with it. Dope, there better not be any plastic nuts on there

Judd, I believe the 10 perimeter bolts get torqued to 25 ft-lb...check out www.installuniversity.com step 7 for this install and many other great pictorial mods/installs..

I reinstalled the brackets as well. A little tough to get them back in, but once I got the bolt started it wasn't so bad. I had to bend the brackets a little so the line wouldn't rub against them too hard. Piece of cake.

I don't know if you did your install already but FYI I followed the Install U's instructions but IRT the gasket- I used a new one and put gasket sealer on both sides of it and the seam is dry as a bone. I did the teflon thing too-even on the threads of the preload bolts where they meet the cover when they're torqued because they were a little sloppy. I put blue locktite on the preload bolt holding nuts too. Maybe I went a little overboard but WTF. It's sure as hell sealed good.
