Default What would be the best converter/gear combo for highway racing?

I may be doing a A4 to M6 swap with someone in a month or two. If it falls through I plan to go with another converter. What would be the ultimate converter/gear combo for a h/c LS1 strictly for racing from a high speed (60+) roll? And still maintain some kind of drivability.

Gear? That's easy: 3.73 gear.

Converter: That's a little harder...Toss up between the Yank Pro Thruster 4000 and the Super Yank 4000. The Super Yank 3500 would be even more efficient than either, but it would lack the awesome mid-range punch of the Pro Thruster, nor the longer shift extension of SY4000.

But since you mentioned the streetability word, the nod would have to go to the Super Yank 3500. It would feel as streetable as your Vig, but it would walk away from it when racing from a roll. The larger, more efficient converters like the Super Yanks have an advantage when racing from a roll.

Clear as mud?

Yeah, a TP-4(4)00 with 3.73's would be hard to beat! That converter comes to life in mid-range!

I chose the SY4000 for this purpose, the midrange and the topend.

I wanted the 4000 over the 3500 for shifting purposes and a little more stall. The 4000 will hold more rpms on the shift also.

I e-mailed Yank about this a few months ago. I believe they recommended a PT 4400 ? I think? And why not 4.10's? I would think that would help the looseness issue some.

The TP series have higher STR. Which arnt as efficient as a SY series with the 1.8STR or 1.6STR.

With a TP you will have an awesome launch cause it has so much power off the launch. But it is not as efficient. The SY will not launch as hard but will have better efficiency on the top end.

Here read this it will explain it all. Read about the STR part and below. http://xs-fx.com/raughammer/CONVERTER.HTM

4.10s would limit your top speed too much. With 3.73s, you could still go 170-180 mph if you wanted to push it. 4.10s would start running out of motor above 150 mph which is a little low for some highway runners. That's why 3.73 gears were an easy choice.

The PT4400 is a good choice, but a PT4000 will put down a few more ponies to the ground, making it shine in a race from a roll.

Gotta give my vote for 3.73 and the SY4000

The "from-a-punch" power of the SY is incredible...
and it's not as loose as u'd think, I've had mine for 2 weeks, and I DO NOT notice it at all!

definitly a lethal combo!

YTP 4400 and 3.73s

The extra gear of the 3.73s will allow the combo to feel not much looser than the Vig 3200 & 3.23 combo. I have the YTP 4000 with 3.73s and it feels just a hair looser than when I had my ST 3500 and 3.23s, and some of that looseness is due to my car weighing more now.

Take it from someone ..well a couple of people that have responded to this.. We've owned both a SY and a TP converters... and we all agree TP.

The first time I rolled the TP-4400 on the interstate, it blew me away. It litterally fells like you hit a N20 shot when it shifts into 3rd gear!
