Default Effeciancy with 3200 Vigilante

Got some unlocked Vs. locked dyno numbers with the converter at Fastech yesterday.

Converter unlocked 338.7 rwhp 364rwtq

Converter locked 356.0 rwhp 361rwtq

With the converter locked up i gained 17.3rwhp and lost 3rwtq. I hit the number almost dead on the head at what i thought it would do (18rwhp).

Thought i would share the info.

I went

12.79 @ 104 mph unlocked

to

12.65 @ 106 mph locked.

same day and everything, so hope that helps out some.

I know that Yanks are pretty efficient but would I gain anything at the track if I lock my Yank up?

Z28kid,what was the 60fts. on both runs? That way we can make an accurate reading on where you gained the ET.

I never gained anything other than mph locking up the vig3200. I've tried it every which way and it only gains 1mph at most.

If you do gain any, it shouldn't be much at all w/ the Yank's efficiency. I'd be curious to see what you'd dyno locked vs. unlocked.
Your #'s are very close to what I saw with my Vig 3200. I showed a 19 RWHP difference. What's weird is that I only had a 19 RWHP loss with my Vig 3600 in my T/A, yet I lost 38 RWHP with the Vig 4000!

Yank in sig made 301 unlocked, 314 locked (13 RWHP diff). Should have been more like 9 RWHP diff based on 97% efficiency, but remember some of this was probably due to the LS1's inherent tendency with stock programming to pick up HP on consecutive dyno runs.

I've tried locking it at the track and have never
been able to gain enough MPH to conclude anything.

Interesting... So the lockup switch would get you a better MPH, but not ET, right? Thanks for that info.

Blacksunshine,i personally would think you could see up to a good MPH locking up the converter but the ET is prolly not a given at times.

oops, sorry man, i just checked and it was

12.79 @ 104mph w/ 1.71 60'

12.65 @ 106mph w/ 1.72 60'

so they were darn close. and i did it back to back to, next run i went without it and it went back up to like a 12.8x and then back down with it locked. but those 60ft's were a little different.

Trevor, wonder why the 4000 Vigilante would drop another 19rwhp over the 3600 Vigilante? The 4000 may flash higher than the 3600,you know how PI under rates them

Seems the higher you go with a Vigilante worse the effeciancy gets. My next converter might be the YTP 4000.

Z28kid,that is all gained by locking the converter up from what the 60fts. look like. Seems your one of the lucky ones that saw ET along with MPH. Nice gains for locking the converter. hmmmmm ol brain is rolling the gears inside hehe!

That's because the blade angles get worse as PI chnages them to raise stall.

Go all the way and Get the 4400

The Vig 4000 would flash to the moon! It was REALLY loose, and it annoyed me to drive. Jack @ PI said to give it a try, and I damn sure regretted it. It was way too big for my setup; I was flashing way past my peak torque.
My next converter is going to be the PT4400. Do it right the 1st time!
Plumb Crazy - You probably need more gear before you could try to lock the converter. With the ultra-inefficient Vig 4000, I couldn't gain any ET at the track b/c I was only running 3.42's. This was with a 383 that built power up to 6,800 RPM. My RPM's were just too low at the big end of the track to be able to show a gain w/ the converter locked.
