Default Who's running the Ultra Thruster 4800?

I know this is a relatively new converter, but I was wondering if anyone's had a chance to track test this monster?

Yep John has that new verter and I believe he went ALOT slower with it too.]

Talking to Mike at Yank u need a 6800 and up power band to really use the benefits of the Ultra T4800.

Thunder Racing has tested it too and I believe they thought a TP4400 was PERFECT for even the baddest H/C Cars

I'm gonna have Mike up my TP to 4400 like most other low 11/High 10 Sec guys. Then over the summer I'll install the BIG INCH SHORT BLOCK and tone down the TP to around 3800...

Dave stick with the 4400
Its the perfect verter for your setup
Just get 300lbs outta your car and 10's r yours..
Good luck...

Default Re: Who's running the Ultra Thruster 4800?

Raughammer only got to run the converter once down the track. Yes, he went slower, but there were reasons. Biggest of all is the weather. The density altitude was about 3000' higher when he tested it out vs. when he ran his 10.80s. Second, the track was not prepped as well and he had to deal with traction issues. Third, he only got 2 runs to try out the new converter and his shift points were WAY low. Fourth, the motor was down on power and has since been taken apart to find the source of the rod knock.

The Ultra Thruster is probably too loose a converter for Raughammer with his low 6200 rpm power peak. A better choice would be the new Super Thruster 4000. It's even newer and totally badass. It makes the launch of the Vig 3600 look like a Super Yank 3500. If looking for more launch, look no further than the Super Thruster 4000. There are new dyno sheets in the "dyno shop" section of the Yank Website.

Thanks, guys, for the responses so far.

Patrick, any 60' times from this converter yet (ST4000) or is it too new?

The reason I was eyeing up the UT4800 is that a few changes over the winter may push my power curve pretty high (it's already pretty high with the cam I'm running). I assume that if peak power was, say 6800, the UT would be the way to go? Ragtop showed me dyno overlays that showed the UT4800 a good deal stronger than my current TP4400, accross the band.

No 60' times with the ST4000 by "customers", only by the test car. The test car is too heavy to compete with the times the flyweight cars are running these days, but rest assured, it launched much harder than it did with the Vig 3600. That's saying something.

The Prototype ST4000 converter is for sale at a "used" price with a full two year factory warranty if anyone's interested.

I believe Geoff said he cut an excellent 60' with the converter.

Patrick, Dave has S2 heads with 226/234 112 cam and 4.11 gears, so he he makes a lot of power up top. I would think the converter should work well for him.

Ragtop, what converter should work well for me, the UT, right. Or did you mean the ST4000?

Geoff/Angie's car is running the Yank PT4600 and the car has been in the high 1.4s pretty consistantly. It was a great upgrade over the Vig 3600 they were previously running. The car leaves much harder and really comes on in 3rd gear, where the Vig 3600 felt kinda slugish.

Paul @ Thunder is using the UT4800 and has gone low low 1.5s in a 3650lb car w/ stock suspension with my old solid roller motor. However, he is going to send the converter back to be restalled when the FLP tranny comes in since it is a little too big for his combo right now. After the tranny and new converter, 10s should be very possible.

Patrick, do you think Paul's car would run better with the new ST4000 or the converter Angie is running (PT4600)? Here is what the motor dynoed when it was in my car:

Jason,

I'd like to see Paul try out the ST4000. We all know that the Pro Thruster 4600 is a superb converter, but the Super Thruster 4000 will put down more torque at the starting line...PERIOD! Whether it keeps the lead over the highly efficient PT4600 on the big-end of the track remains to be seen.

Default Re: Who's running the Ultra Thruster 4800?

I have a UT-~4600 in my Stock internals car. I really haven't got a full clean pass with the converter, having MAJOR TM problems.

I went from a stock tranny with TP-4400 to a Pro Yank tranny with UT-4600.

Best 60ft with TP-4400: 1.61
Best 60ft with UT-4600: 1.540

This converter hits the tires HARD! On a good track, my car went from consistant 1.62's to high 1.5's. I really hate that I haven't had a clean pass with the UT-4600 to show what it can really do. I think it's easily good for a low 1.5 60ft in my 3400lbs stock internals car once I get it sorted out! Hopefully, Ed Wright has my cure.

Once I get it sorted out, I will probably have to drop the stall back to a 4400 for my lower rpm stock internals car.

I think a UT-4600/4400 would be awesome for a NA heads and cam car, that can use it's high rpm qualities.

Not a good mix according to Paul@Thunder w/a Head and cam car. This is the info I got right from Paul and Jason too.Unless u shift hiher than 6800 its really not worth running the UT4800.

I'm gonna have my TP just stallled to 4600
Its at 4000/4200 now and I'll need alittle more flash for my new combination.

I think all things being equal if you set two cars side by side rather they have H/C or not and one of them has a UT 4800 and the other has some other converter like a TP 4400 the car with the UT 4800 would be quicker in the 1/4 mile every time. The gain my not be worth running that much stall to most but if you want to shave every last bit of E.T. that you possibly can then the UT 4800 is the way to go.

Or am I wrong about all that?

Hey Patrick what's up? Any idea of the flash stall of the ST4000? I to the point I'm tried of trying converters. I'm on my 4th. one now and I'd really like to get one in there that is right for my set-up. I want one that will hit the tires as hard as possible and streetability is NO issue. I drive my UT4800 everyday and I love it. My UT4800 hits very hard off the line but it keep the RPMs well over 6000 all the time at WOT. I'm missing too much of my power band. I've been talking to Mike and I'm leaning toward a PT4400. Give me a shout and let me know your opinion.

Thanks!!

I would have to disagree with you on that. I made a switch from the Vig 3600 to the UT4800 and I picked up over a tenth on my 60' and had no gain in ET or MPH. That was with my stock motor so the UT4800 put me way over my power band. It's critical to get a converter matched to your power band for best performance. My wife was kicking the crap out of me with her Vig 3200 in her TA.

Patrick G,what about the ST4000 for a setup like mine? Im going to step up the stall later on and im looking at the TP4000 and TP4400. Will the ST4000 hit as hard off the line as the TP4400 you think? How much for the ST4000,if they have set a price yet?

The car seems to level off on power at 6300rpms on the dyno and im wanting a converter that 60fts. harder than my little 3200,carry the upshift just a little more and more effeciant in 3rd gear.
