Need help deciding whether to get a Trans Go shift kit???

Need help deciding whether to get a Trans Go shift kit??? Okay, I have donw searches and all I have ocme up with is mized opinions. I need a solid answer. I want to get a Trans Go shift kit, the full one with a valve body and stuff. I will ahve it prfessionally installed by the best mechanic in the bay area for our car in Sacramento. I need to know if this will harm the tranny. I have heard half the people sayno, half yes. So what is the truth. If installed tight and the whole kit, will I be safe? Thanks!

What year is your car? “01s and up are having issues with using shift kits and having torque management problems (getting negative timing during and after upshifts). Even some earlier years have TM issues with shift kits, but especially ’01 and up. I have a ’00, and I never even had a shift kit and I was having TM issues till I had it removed. TM is evil <img src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" border="0">

Re: Need help deciding whether to get a Trans Go shift kit??? LOL, yes, it is! My car is a 1998. What do you guys think? Should i just stay away from it. Whe I get a TC, it will prolly be a 3000 or 3200 max stall anyways.

I've always heard that in general, shift kits prolong clutch and band life by shortening the time the tranny is actuating two gears between shifts. Smooth shifts are a result of one gear slowly disengaging while the other slowly engages. Reducing the time means less wear and firmer shifts.
I just installed a TransGo kit in my '02 and what a difference with the 1-2 shift (3 washers). It hits HARD.
The reason I put the kit in is I'm installing a Yank ST3800 soon and a high stall converter tends to soften shifts. The kit brings the firmness back.

Re: Need help deciding whether to get a Trans Go shift kit??? I've had one in my 30th for over a year with no problems. I ran them in my previous two cars with no problems. I like the way there's no slop in the shifts.
Will it be harder on your tranny ? No. It will actually prolong clutch life.
Will you eventually break a tranny with a TransGo just like any other transmission if you race it ? You betcha. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0"> It's not magic.
The shift kit will increase the drivability of the car, especially a convertered car. It will not make your 1/4 mile faster by much if anything. It will firm the shifts up nicely.

What I meant to say is that if you RACE your car, there's a possibility that the tranny will break regardless of whether there's a shift kit in it or not. Sorry if that wasn't clear. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">
I recommend the TransGo kit if you're thinking about doing it, it's much more complete than any of the competing kits.
