With a big converter like a 4000-4500, you would not want it to lock below 40--45mph.

I got my "donor" computer from Ed today. It's set up to lockup up at 30mph...
We'll see how it goes! If it gets rid of Torque Management, that will make me more happy than ANYTHING!

I love it! Put about 30 miles on it this morning 90% local street driving. The tranny shifted complete different with the programming. No more strange shifts and funky lock up action. Very "normal" car feeling. Of course it still feels like a 6000 stall, but locks up very nice a 30mph.
For now I'd have to say Ed Wright did a good job. I can't wait to get it to a track!

One thought I had was getting programming to keep the tranny in 1st gear longer at lighter throttle when taking off. I know that with my ST3500, it feels great in 1st gear but at light throttle comes out of first too fast and is in 3rd gear really quick and at that point I need to get the engine to 3000 RPM to go anywhere at a decent pace. Just a thought.

Re: Cool idea to make super loose converters super tight in traffic. Mitch, you're right on. One of the key points in re-programming my pcm is to raise the part throttle shift points. My tranny short-shifts way too easily at low speeds. Locking up the clutch will only work well with raised shift points.
