Question about Overdrive and Drive???

3 is the same as D on a camaro, which is drive. D in a firebird equal OD in the camaro, which is obviously overdrive. They changed things up a big, just consider your D the D with a circle around it.
It is best to drive around town in drive (3) because the converter will lock up as low as 35 mph (at least for me). You will worry about that a little bit more when/if you get a high stall converter and/or a cam, trust me.

I agree. My car never sees OD except when I'm on the Interstate. 
P.S.- FWIW, in the Corvette the shifter reads 1, 2, 3, OD (D with circle). However, no matter what it says in your car, we all have the same 4L60E tranny so the gears are 1, 2, 3, and 4 aka Overdrive.

When I had 2.73's, I used to drive around in town in 3rd and only engage OD on the freeway because the car would bog so bad locked up in OD. With 3.42's, OD is fine all the time, as it would be if you have 3.23's.

Awesome. Thanks for all the great info. The manual says you get more power by leaving it in "3" (DRIVE) and the fuel economy is better. I had no idea. I have been driving around in OD since I bought the car last Dec. There is a slight HP gain too!
