Default New Dyno #'s with my ST3500 ???????

I dynoed my car to see the gains for the torque converter and see how much I picked from mileage also. My first dyno run was done in October of this year with less than 3500 miles on the car. The only mods on the car at the time was FLP headers and a Whisper lid. The car turned a 12.90@106.4 mph with a 1.92 on street tires, the night before the dyno run. November I ran the car again, same weather conditions and the car turned a 12.60@110.12 with a 1.92 on street tires, Mileage was 9300. Yes, I did some long trips in the month of november. So I installed the ST3500 in the begining of December and decided to have it dynoed again Thursday of this week to see the difference of mileage and the torque converter. I lost 23hp! Plus I do not think the dyno operator was getting into the car right. His first pull actually looked normal, the other 2 pulls looked squirrly. I think he jumped on it to late in the last 2 pulls. Air temp between the the dyno runs was a big difference. 1st was at 68 and the second was at a chilly 31. Heres a jpg of my dyno pulls. Tell me what you think happened to lose 23hp. http://members.aol.com/flynelvi/dyno2.jpg

List all your mods, cuz if it's just a lid and
FLP's and the converter your numbers look right.
(if not high). You were making close to 350rwhp
before the converter?Am I confused here? <img src="images/icons/confused.gif" border="0">

To get a correct reading of RWHP on the dyno w/ TC, the TC needs be locked, either by Tech 2 or manual lockup switch.
In your case it looks like that the dyno operator flashed the TC; thus, you would see a lost in HP but gain in torque.

Also, you need to compare the same kind of HP #, such as SAE # to a SAE #, not a standard # to a SAE #.
On your graph, it says "Actual Horsepower". I'm not sure it means "standard" or "SAE" corrected.

From seeing dozens of ST3500 dynos, the rwhp loss for your level is around 12-15 hp, no more. Your dyno comparison is not an apples to apples comparison.

How much do you think a PI4400 on a TH400 thats non locking soak up?, if im making 360-370rwhp right now and 350rwtq, through a 6-speed trans, I'm doing the TH400 conversion

Thanks.. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

Who cares Brian.
You know what kinda power the car makes.
Thru a TH400 and loose converter, you will probably lose a bit.
If you're looking for dyno numbers, then that trans/converter ISN'T what you want.
If you want to go fast at the track, then THAT'S what you're going to get.

Dyno numbers on a non lockup converter mean SQUAT.

I'm just wondering how much the 4400 will soak up, considering its non-locking <img src="graemlins/gr_punch.gif" border="0" alt="[fight]" />

Still the same mods, FLP LT's and a Whisper lid. Just added the torque converter and a tranny cooler. Those are uncorrected numbers, corrected was 303hp and 335tq on the last 2 runs, and before the converter it was 326hp and 340tq corrected. No I do not have a lock up switch. So run 3# was because he flashed the converter and runs #4 and #5, looked like that because?

Ok explain this. On my very first dyno run you will see the normal crossover of horsepower and torque happens at 5250 like it should, but look on the new graph it now occurs at 5000 both graphs are corrected and run #2 is the same run. So why is it different now? Also why do the new runs occur at 4900. I think the dyno was screwed.

It's not too uncommon for an A4 to lose power with an aftermarket converter.
Lock it up and I bet you'll get all that power right back.

DITTO, I dynoed 301 rwh and have run a best of 12.1 <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0"> . Take it to the track and I'm sure you will be happy. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[Burnout]" />

Why would there be a loss in power? Yank claims the stock coverter is 94% efficient and the ST3500 is 96% efficient.

Thanks.
