Default SSF 3500 trouble

Hey I have a brand new torque converter (stated above) and took it to the track. The car hasn't been tuned or anything, I was just trying to see what it would run without the tune. Couldnt catch any traction but not blaming that on the torque converter, the problem was that the torque converter was overheating I guess you can call it. I went up to the line to try and do a burn out and it didnt even burn out at all. The rpm's went up but "no burn-out" . What do you'll think is going on with the tranny . Just to let you'll know the tranny is practically a brand new one ( 4l60e with 6,500 miles on it) the torque converter doesnt even have 1000 miles on it and no I dont have a temp gauge to check the tranny. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.!!

Yes I do have a cooler, what do you mean (torque management)? I think this is like the second time that has happened, I do a burnout and then the torque converter gets hot.

how do you know the converter gets hot? you touching it?
a temp gauge is a must. a litle bit of hot rodding and the temps will rise quickly

I agree it's probably TM

TM is torque management, it's something you'll need to get taken care of with a tune. I don't know if that is causing your problem or not. What year is the car? TM is more of a problem with the 01's & 02's. FYI my car never did what you're describing before I had TM taken care of. It would fall on it's face during shifts, but I could boil the tires off if I wanted too. Same converter, TCI 3500. How's the fluid level? Does the fluid smell burnt at all?

Fluid level is good, not burnt at all, havent tuned it probably thats the problem. My car is a 2000. Im thinking of chaniging the fluid in there anyway. So you'll guys think I should tune it? And of course a temp gauge, right??!!

Some tuning definatley couldn't hurt and neither could a temp guage. What type of fluid is in the car now? I believe there have been some problems with people putting F-type and the B&M trick shift fluid in these converters.

I have M1 synthetic, but when I change it I will not put a synthetic back in. From what I heard it actually causes things to get hotter due to more slip. Any quality brand dexron III fluid should be fine. Some people will mix in some type F, but I wouldn't do it because of the lockup clutches in the TCI verter.
