Default SS or PT4000 stall conveter question...

If the shift point is 6400 rpm on a stock cammed car, what rpm (usually) will it fall back to when it shifts? 5500? Less...more?

I'd like some info on the SS4000 and the PT4000. Looking for some real world experience, no guessing games. I'm looking to go with a different setup, but I dont want to pick parts and hope they work well together...

Thanks guys,
Mike

Mine never drops below 6,000 rpm! Thats were the power is if your into that kinda stuff. Dave at Yank has said the PT and SS will 60' close but the PT will have a car length at the end all things being equal. SS for street and PT for track.

i am looking into the same thing.. the PT or SS 4000.. some people say theirs never drop below 5000 and some say that they stay close to 6000 on te shift extension..

But i think the difference might be in te rear gear ratio.. I have 3.73's so i am guessing my shift extension with the SS or PT 4000 would be around 5500-6000..

We still need some answers though! 99SSLEEPER whats your rear gear ratio?

yea thats what i planned on doing.. i am getting my car dynoed so i will be able to tell where my max HP is then i'll base my shift extension around that so it drops me right into my max power on every shift! =)

sorry for the late reply, my rear gears are 3.73s.

what i want to do is establish the rpm range that these 4000 stalls let the engine operate at under wot. if i pull the engine to 6400 and it shifts back to 5500, i want to choose a cam that will peak at about 6000-6200 as to average the most hp during the shifts.

this means mid 11s should be no problem with one of these converters and the proper cam, maybe not even a "big" cam.

with a little help from the giggle gas, it shouldnt be too hard to knock on the 10 second door... ...provided the converter is built for nitrous.
