stock rearend question
stock rearend question i've been told that if a '00 has the auto shifter that can select down into 1, then it has 3.42's. is this correct? my mom got a z28 vert with pretty much every option including ASR and the stick has the 1 gear select.
That may not be all true. I had a 96' that had a 1st gear selector, but my Comaro only had a 2:73.. There is a simple trick to check it out for yourself. Jack the rea of the car up. Put jack stands under the axle tubes. Put the car in neutral, and get a friend to sit next to one of the tires. You get under the car, and put a mark on the pinion. As your friend turns the tire one full revolution you count how many time that mark on the pinion spins arouond, it souns like a crude way, but try it and youll see that it works. If it spins almost 3 full turns then you have a 2:73, if it goes 3 1/2 turns then you've got a 3:42...
it says gu2. i dont really care what this car has, since it's not even mine, but thanks for the info for my future purchase. btw, the car seems pretty top end oriented, so i could see if havin the taller gearing.
