Cracked Flywheel
Happens because GM changed the flexplate design
and took some "meat" out of it. If you have the
trans off, switch to an earlier year flexplate like
I did. Or a fancier one, but the early stocker seems
to be adequate. Look up "crack flexplate", more than
a few instances reported here.

Mine completly broke and bent into three pieces. It is a 2001-2002 problem. I got a TCI flexplate, which is a flywheel, for $190.00 it is suppose to take alot more punishment than the stocker. Check out Speed INC. Look for transmission parts.

The TCI SF29 flexplate is the way to go, both Jeg's and Summit sells them for $199. I replaced mine in my 01 Z28 when I did the TC change, you will need longer bolts though.
It is the 01 & 02's that have the thinner plates.

What about 6.0L plates or other truck plates? Are they different than the 5.7L plates? I would imagine they'd be a little thicker.
