Converter type: SY3500
Gear size: 3.23
Loose/tight: Just fine for me
Tranny rebuild: Not yet, but coming next month or two (just preventative upgrade for upcoming motor build-up, stock tranny is still doing fine)
Tranny cooler: Yes, B&M 16,000gvw supercooler. Temps stay around 185 cruising (summer) and 200 after a hard beating (summer)
Shift kit: No.
Custom Programming or HPP3: Yes, custom tune from MTI (LS1 edit) No more TM!!!
SES codes: No, never before or after custom tune

I installed my ‘verter before I ever took the car to the track, so I don’t have a before and after. But with just an air lid, cat back exhaust, common suspension upgrades (SFCs, STB, LCAs, PHB), and BFG DRs I ran a best of 12.69 (1.69 60ft) with only 3000 miles on the clock! My common 60 foot times were more in the 1.7X range though.

I love this ‘verter from a roll. It preformed better from a roll than my friends equally modded vig3200 car did. It’s not at all too loose for me and I love the ease of launch on the street with the low STR. All around I love this ‘verter and I will probably be keeping it in permanatly, unless I ever upgrade to a SY4000. The car is now going through a build-up, so that SY4000 might be in order...

Converter type?...ST-3500
Gear size?...3.23
Loose/tight?...just a little loose
Tranny rebuilt?...no, totally stock
Tranny cooler installed?...Yes, B&M 19,000 GVW
Shift kit installed?...no
Custom programming/HPP?...Yes, HPP
Any SES codes?...yes, I leave the tranny in "D" when driving under 50 MPH and have not gotten any more SES codes
Did you test the converter at track right after install?...yes

Reduction in ET with converter almost .7!

Overall thoughts on your choice of converter?

Absolutely awesome converter in terms of performance gain. Shaving off almost .7 is mind boggling. The only complaint I have against the ST-3500 is the SES light occaisionally if you leave it in "OD" driving around town.

Converter type?...Vig 3200
Gear size?...3.73:1 (yet to be run at a sticky track)
Loose/tight?...perfect street/strip converter
Tranny rebuilt?...no
Tranny cooler installed?...yes
Shift kit installed?...yes
Custom programming/HTPP?...Ed Wright
Any SES codes?...no; never had any before the tuning either that were converter-related
Did you test the converter at track right after install?...not on my SS I didn't; I saw over .6 from this converter in my T/A, though. I would expect my gain to be right at the same in my SS.

Overall thoughts on your choice of converter?
I think it's the absolute best street/strip converter that Precision Ind. makes for our cars. I could definitely handle more stall, but I'm not going to do any upgrading just yet. I'm hoping to see some 1.5 60' times and 11's with the 3.73's and a raceweight right at 3,640#.

Converter type? ST3500
Gear size? 3.73
Loose/tight? A little looser than I'd like
Tranny rebuilt? No
Tranny cooler installed? B&M 19,000 GVW
Shift kit installed? No
Custom programming/HTPP? HPP (Only used for gears)
Any SES codes? No
Did you test the converter at track right after install? Yes

Times with converter (and/or gear) change only:
Best ET before converter? 13.68 @ 103 with a 60' of 2.10
Best ET after converter? 12.80 @ 106.7 with a 60' of 1.7x

Overall thoughts on your choice of converter? Huge gain at the track, definitely the best mod you can buy for an A4. Picking up almost 9 tenths from a single mod that costs less than a thousand dollars installed is hard to match.

Here is my comparo
Was M6 with 3.73's
Best time with cats on the car
12.62@116mph 1.91 sixty on slicks
Switched to Yank4L70 tranny and TP4400 converter
4.11 gears
With only HALF throttle in first gear
11.70@116.5mph and a 1.67 sixty
Car has 11.40's EASY in it.
So I gained 9 tenths while having to give it half throttle through first.
And will probably have a net gain of around 1.2 seconds with hook

OK, I'm sold, the very first mod (after tires) for my LT1 is going to be a convertor!! I'm gonna go with the Vigilante 2800. What kinds of results have you LS1 owners seen with this convertor?

This convertor ROCKS! I dropped .3 off my 1/8 mile ET!! with street tires and totally babied it off the line. Very similar weather for both runs. Can't wait for my ET streets to come in!

I love it to death. Ran a 12.0 @ 111 (TM is hurting me bad!) with a 1.65 60ft and I spun on that run. Hoping for a 1.5x 60ft soon!
I'm getting constant SES codes. Other than that, I'm really happy with it.

I shaved off exactly .5 with the Vig 2800 in my T/A. I soon upgraded to the Vig 3200.

I'm sure you guys knew I would be showing up in this thread sooner or later. So, without further delay, here are my thoughts on the 2 converters I have gone thru on my '01 SS.

Converter #1:

Converter type?
- Yank ST3500

Gear size?
- 3.23

Loose/tight?
- Very Loose

Tranny rebuilt?
- No

Tranny cooler installed?
- B&M 24K GVW

Shift kit installed?
- No

Custom programming/HTPP?
- Yes, HPP3 @ 25%

Any SES codes?
- All the time, even if I drive in 3rd and shift to 4th. Don't even THINK about this converter for an '01+ if you live in the hills!

Did you test the converter at track right after install?
- Yes

Times with converter (and/or gear) change only
Best ET before converter?...13.21
Best ET after converter?...12.75

Overall thoughts on your choice of converter?
The ST3500 was a big (and expen$ive) mistake on my '01.

Converter #2

Converter type?
- Precision Industries Vigilante 3200

Gear size?
- 3.23

Loose/tight?
- Not bad at all. No, it's not "perfect", but what is?

Tranny rebuilt?
- No

Tranny cooler installed?
- B&M 24K GVW

Shift kit installed?
- No

Custom programming/HTPP?
- Yes, HPP3 @ 25%

Any SES codes?
- None at all, and I drive this converter in 4th gear all the time.

Did you test the converter at track right after install?
- Yes

Times with converter (and/or gear) change only
- Best ET before converter?...13.21
- Best ET after converter?...12.73

Overall thoughts on your choice of converter?
- One of the best performance mods that can be done to an A4 daily-driven car. And I received it in 4 business days, not 4 business months...

(OK, so it really took almost 2 months to receive my "other" converter, but you get the idea)

60' drop was sweet. 1.55 on NITTOS

great converter for a daily driver.

Patman,
If you are going Vig I would go with the 3200 stall
A lot of people find that converter a good comprimise between street and strip.
