Default 4L60E...I'm done with it

I've had it. My tranny is starting to slip. Its leakin a bit(pump I believe), lock up solenoid is done, and it now doesn't like to shift and is seeing about 3.5K RPMS at only 50 mph. I've already spent a crapload of money on a complete rebuild, and spent another $400 repairing a previous leak and 2 fried solenoids. I don't want to throw my money away at this tranny anymore.

I want to get a completely new unit. A 3 speed I'd like to have, having or not having overdrive isn't much of an issue to me. I'd like to stay away from electronics if I can. I'm running cam only right now, but money is gonna be on the high side SOON. I ordered a TNT 150 Wet Shot kit already, so I'm projecting no more than 550 RWHP. I like the TH400, but DON'T like the fact that its heavy, and theres a ton of drivetrain loss with it. What are some options out there, and I would like to have something that pretty much bolts right in without having a conversion nightmare. Thanks.

I'm not sure of the exact weight but TH400's are about the same weight as 60e's, its the 80 thats heavier.

TH400's can also be geared differenty to regain any losses, You can get up to a 3.0 first gear ratio which is about the same as a 60e.

You can always go with a TH350 if your worried about weight and all that but i'd stick to the 400, especially if you plan to spray in the future.

How much would an upgraded TH400 cost WITHOUT the gear vendors overdrive unit? I've searched on some of the sponsors, but couldn't find anything. Does this have to be manually shifted, or no? I just want peace of mind, and 1 less to worry about blowing up.

rossler has prices on their website. its www.roslertrans.com i believe. 1300 for a full comp level TH400, RMVB, and transbrake. convertors are anywhere from 500-the moon. dont forget about crossmember, bellhousing, DS. shifter, and spedo electronics (and dipstick) too.

TH400 and 4L60e weight difference is less than 50 lbs. i think more like 20-30 lbs.
