Default How is Racing from a Roll compared to stock with a 3500 stall or better?

What are the results when you guys have raced from a ROLL with your TCI 3500 or other converter? Is it better or worse. Just want to find out. I know for sure from a dig is where the car shines now. But I havent really roll raced yet.

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

MUCH MUCH MUCH better. stalls put you right in your power zone and keep you from the dreaded 2nd gear mush.

besides why are you roll racing? you are an auto

general rule higher the stall the better for a roll, higher str is better for a dig.

I was also wondering this, because many cars like to mess around with me on I-70. Plus, I have a friend with a stock 02 Z28 and 3.23s. I have full exhaust, lid, and 2.73s. If he takes the jump first from a 60 roll, I can't pull past him . The 2.73s kill me, so I hope the stall will help from a roll.

Much better on the roll, however, you just shouldn't roll race with your A4. You can, BUT....I raced this Neon several times from around a 60 mph punch, and he instantly put 2-3 cars on me. Now, I did catch him at 125mph, but shut it down at that speed. We went from a dig a lil' later, and it was VERY ugly for him. If you want to roll race, get an M6. Now, from 40 rolls, I throw that bitch down in 2nd, and manually shift it at 6600 RPMs. It gives you real kick in the pants, and has worked for me SO much better than simply punching it from 40 mph while my verter is locked. YOu still do alright on the rolls though.

you will also need tuning for the trans and change the downshift/upshift settings. At 40mph my trans shifts to first for a crasy *** take off. First gear with a 3.23 rear and 6,200 redline will max out at 46mph so anything under 40 will now shift to first. You can do this for all gears which will improve your roll racing.

depending on what rpm you are at it may or may not help.
also the faster you go(80pmh+) the more a converter will hurt you on top end.
thats where effiecency plays a roll.

it depends on what rpm you are at and how big the verter is.

What he said. I have raced my buddy in a stock z28 M6 (before my gears) from about 80 mph roll. We were pretty even until around 100 mph, then he started to pull on me.

I haven't gotten him to race me from a slow roll (I want 30mph) because he knows I will destroy him.

Based on my track times between a stock TC & TCI3500SSF, I decreased .2 in my 60 ft., .3 @ 1/8, ~.35 @ 1/4. The mphs are virtually identical at each marker. So between the 1/8 to 1/4 marks (90 to 110 mph) the TCI improved the ET by ~0.5 sec. Between the 60 to 1/8 marks(~40 to 90mph), ~0.1 improvement.

The improvement is hard to tell by the SOTP, well my seat anyways. lol! Butt its there! HTH

from a street roll a converter will help alot i find .. what also helps is having your car tuned properly... by this i mean really getting it tuned so it down shifts more ofter also reducing shift duration ....this will help alot from a roll
