Default TCI or VIG?

I went with a TCI 3500 for my OLD LT1, now with my LS1 im debating the converter companies again. I really wanted to try a VIG, but for over 200 + $ more is it really worth it? My TCI did FINE! Worked like a Champ! I havnt heard much bad about either of these companies. Was looking around a 3600 or so stall. So what gives? Opinions?

I can't comment on a TCI...but I have owned two VIGs (2800, 3200)and two Yanks(4400, 3500) backed with 3.23 gearing. The VIG3200 was the best all around converter (IMO) I've owned to date. I've been trying to research some times and reviews of the TCI for a comparison. As, the pricing on the TCI unit does look more appealing for a budget minded builder. I guess one good thing about the VIG(price wise) is that you do get a free restall if you don't like the original purchase. That may be worth some of the extra $200 there.

i decided to go ith a vig 3200 after being told that the vig drives a lot like stock when you a being easy on it but is a complete beast when you get on it, and since mine is a daily driver that was key. also was told they are real tough converters. just my .02

Stall is Stall, if the str and the advertised stall is the same more than likely they are going to perform the same,

A friend of mine droped 7 tenths on a tci 3500 stall, 13.7 to 13.00, just thought id throw that in

You'll get equal replies from both users. For what its worth I have a vig3200 that has about 15k trouble free miles on it.

As far as ratings go a stall isn't always a stall

this comment is so incredibly wrong it isnt funny. i hope you have lots of experience before spouting this misinformation. call up either TCI or PI and neither will tell you this trash.

a stall is not a stall. vig will have the billit covers which makes for less rotating mass. if both convertors stall at say 3200 rpms, the vig with the billet cover gets there quicker and more efficiently. also internal materials are clutch materials will be better in the more expensive convertors. that is no lie. driveability will also be different from convertor to convertor.

I love my vig 3200 stall. I only have about 800 miles on it so far but I am glad I went with it over some cheaper options.

thanks for the input, I am leaning towards the Vigilante 3600

My TCI 3500 in my LT1 put me from 13.35 @ 103 1.98 60' to a 12.78 @ 105 1.72 60'

Not too bad for an LT1!

and this all depend on the str, clearences of the cluches, and of course the size of the converter, ya ya thanks for the lesson. if you are going to build a performance converter i would hope you are going to have billit cover, (dont know if the tci has billit, you may be right) but as far as i am concerned i have seen these "cheap" tci converters perform just as good if not better than these high priced converters.

I have not seen many post of people that have had problems with converters unlocking and not locking or reliability issues with Vig.

I have seen more than a couple with TCI converter problems...

Maybe I missed some vig posts but I think both would perform close to an equal level I am not sure if TCI may hold up as long or be as reliable...

Go with YANK, drive on street daily, drive to the track and still cut 1.54,1.55 60 ft times with my bolt on LS1.. Had no troubles with it since ive had it. Give it a try man. By the way with an LS1 i recommend 4000 and up stalls for good launches. Good Luck.

I vote TCI.. Alot of the locals run the TCI's and love them. I have personally seen the results and they are just as good as vig, yank, etc..

I agree.. the SSF converters from TCI seem to realy like the N/A and Nitrous setups... Precision & Vig make the best turbo/blower converters from what I've always seen and heard.
