Default why do LS1's do this??

ive read it and noticed it on my 98 automatic Z28 camaro that at 1500 rpms they seem to fall on there face and dont pick up as well around those rpms. can anyone tell my the reason, is it b/c of the torque converter that came stock or is it something else.

Its simple, these motors just dont make any power at those kind of rpms.

the ls1 has got most of its ***** up top that why they freak out with a big stall because it keep them in there "sweat spot" in the higher Rpms where there power is.

if you have a 3400 stall what do you mean by falling on its face at 1500, you'd be way above that when applying any kind of power. Are you referring to when the converter locks up? Might need to check the lockup tables, timing, and trims, i have a fair amount of power while locked up at low speed.

no its not when i go WOT its just like if your behind someone and they go slow and you barely press the gas pedal at 1500 rpms it just seems to take more to get her to go when barely pressin the pedal, but once the pedal is to the metal she hawls ***.

I know what you mean man. My A4 w/ 3.73 even feels sluggish sometimes, very boggish. In neighborhoods though especially at night the car feels like a freaking Lamborghini! hehe.

Oh, and when I go WOT and hold it, then let off the gas, the RPM's hang around redline for a few seconds before coming back down and makes a EEEEEEEEERRRR! sound. The RPM meter doesn't seem terribly accurate in the LS1 anyways IMO.

combination of cam and torque converter... you wont really feel that issue as much in a M6 being as they can manually select their gears... what you have to overcome is that the torque is being multiplied at that low RPM's and it isnt until the stall speed is reached (or converter flashed) that the torque is "let loose" and you can accelerate at a greater rate

As was said, it's likely your TC causing that feeling. With a high stall you're going to slip a lot in low RPMs and slight throttle, which will make it feel soft or boggy down low.

Headers, etc, also contribute to that feeling. Anything that increases stall or moves your powerband UP in RPM will cause that.

Do you already have the 3400 in b/c I see it is in your mods to come list. Mine did it when it was stock. For some rreason it wouldn't kick down to drive as quick as other cars I've owned. So if it's staying in OD then it is like driving in 5th gear which makes the car accelerate like a

editing upshift and downshift tables will help it feel less sluggish and more in the power band, even at part throttle.

If the motor feels sluggish you might look into a tune, have your trims ect checked. If everything is running properly it shouldn't feel way down on power, even in the heat.
