Default Question About Clearing Converter Codes...

Is there anything more affordable than Autotap that can still clear codes. My car is mainly stock, lid and cutout, and I'll have a catback soon, and have the cutout on it. I don't need to keep track of all the stuff Autotap deals with I don't think, the only thing I'd like to know would be tranny temperature but it's not a major concern of mine. I'm going to be getting a 'verter, and want to know if there is something cheaper that can just read a code (so I know whats up) and then clear it out? Autotap is actual not the main cost, I just don't have a laptop so I'd have to buy one, and even used they are still around $250+ and that makes Autotap and the laptop around $500 if not more. So I need alternatives, thanks for any help.

Josh,
You can buy a OBDII scan tool at your local automotive store. I bought mine at AutoZone for $150. They might be cheaper now. It's made by Actron. It reads and clears codes. The part # is:
CP9035. Give it a try. <img src="graemlins/formula.gif" border="0" alt="[Pontiac]" />

You can buy a cheap, used, laptop good enough to run DOS autotap for under $100. I'm using an old IBM thinkpad 486SX I got for $75. Look around for a shop that does computer repairs, they often have cheap laptops nobody wants because they won't run Windows very well.
What makes you think the converter will set codes?
I have a 2000 Z28 with an ST3500 and it's never set a tranny code.

If you have a Palm PDA, you can go to www.auterraweb.com. They make a software program for the PDA what works like ATAP. You can check and clear codes, check Strims, Ltrims, O2 voltage, KR, etc.
