IMO, the YTP is still king of the hill for max effort. Great 60', long shift extension, good top efficency. It is looooose though. The SS4000 is noticably tighter than the YTP 4000 (had them both in my car). For a weekend or mostly highway car, I would choose the YTP 4200 and take every oz of performance. If you have a lot stop & go daily driver traffic, the SS4000 feels better and doesn't give up much. For most people, the SS3600 will be an excellent choice because it is pretty easy to live with on stock gears.

What do you mean by long shift extension?

Unlike an M6, when an A4 upshifts the engine rpms do not drop all the back to the rpm that matches the gear. The converter slips and allows the engine to stay in its power band. The difference between the rpm for that gear and engine rpm is shift extension. A long shift extension helps keep the motor closer to max HP on the upshifts.

I've had my SS3200 in for about 6 weeks now and I really like it. I got the SS3200 because of the lower STR and stall speed of the SS3600. I knew that traction was going to be a problem and that the SS3200 would be more traction friendly. Unless I could hook up, I wouldn't go any faster with a SS3600 then the SS3200 so I stayed with the SS3200 because I wouldn't go through tires as quickly and I would get some better street manners. I have a pretty loud exhaust (Kooks & GMMG) and the SS3200 is nice because the car can get pretty loud with just the 3200 stall, I think the 3600 would be a little too much....maybe I'm getting old

The only time I wish I had the larger converter is when I nail it from a roll, but I knew that was a trade off that I was going to be making with getting a "lower" stall speed converter. Overall through, I would still buy the SS3200 just for the excellent street manners and hope of getting traction one day when I buy drag radials

I got the converter from Speed Inc. for $715 because they price matched straightline performance who ran a group buy but never followed through until about 2 months later.

The Pt4000 thru 4400 converters is our top seller!
To the true performance buffs it seems to be the converter of choice, when buyers step up from the SS or from another make they always call to tell about that unreal mid and top end pull!

would a SS4000 be good for a N/A 346 with a MS3 and a 150/200 shot?

Yeah I see what you saying, when I slam the pedal it jumps to 6000 and never goes under it even though the shifts.

I love my SS3800. Make sure you have GOOD tires though. Anything less than drag radials, and it' s a waste of time. I run on street tires, and it' s a joke. My shift extension seems to be right around 5100-5300. I love it! No more dead-spots...
