Default Will I be happy with 3.73's with my Vig?

I have heard that the Vig 3200 and 3.73's is a nice match. What kind of SOTP feel will I get going from 3.23's? Is it a big difference? What would the improvement be on the track? I want to feel more than just a slight improvement for all the trouble. I'm trying to decide between that or 4.10's. Help me

The difference over the 3.23's is night and day for the SOTP. First gear, even with Nitto DR's, is somewhat useless on the street. I also could not completely hook up on a set of ET Streets last weekend. I'll be trying out a set of Hoosier slicks next weekend, though.
I can't imagine the 4.10/Vig 3200 setup. There's NO DOUBT that you'll have to run a slick (NOT DOT) to hook that combo up, and you'll EASILY have some 1.5 60' times. With the 3.73's and 26x11.5x16" ET Streets, I cross the line at 5,600-5,700 RPM. With 4.10's, you'll be looking at 6,150-6,250 RPM through the traps. This will be IDEAL for a bolt-on LS1. My car doesn't start dropping peak HP until right at 6,200 RPM. IMO, 4.10's wouldn't be worth it. You'd be looking at ~2,700 RPM @ 70 MPH cruising down the highway; I'm at 2,450 RPMs @ 70 MPH w/ the 3.73's. I don't drop below 5,000 on the shifts with this combo.
On average, 3.73's seem to shave off .06-.08 in the 60' and .15-.2 in the 1/4. I have consistently gained 1.5-2 MPH from the gears and tuning. Every car is different. It's hard to say what I've gained from just the gears since I did custom tuning at the same time. I've also yet to get the car completely hooking.
IMO, I'd go with the Vig 3200/3.73 combo. The 4.10's will be weaker, and they'll be less streetable. Let's not even talk about what kind of tire and track prep you'll need to get it to hook w/ 4.10's!

I already have the 3.73's.Back when I had the stock converter they gave me one tenth & one MPH.SOTP felt like MUCH more.I'm about to have my 2600 (#4 pump) vig restalled & am considering the 3200 but am very concerned about traction. If you can't hook it up on the street with Nittos & can't completely hook at the track with Streets, then your not using this combo to it's full advantage.Which leads me to believe that maybe the 2800 is enough with the 3.73's.At least with the 2800,traction MAY be possible.

Thanks, guys. I think I'll go with the 3.73's. I plan to run BFG DR's on a spare set of wheels so hopefully I'll have some kind of traction. Hey, do I need to buy the install kit for the gears if a shop is putting them in? What comes with the kit?

The install kit will have new bearings, shims, etc. It depends on how many miles you have on your rearend as to whether or not you'll need the install kit.
