Default 4l60/65 Or 4l80?

Okay so I'm confused...

First what is the difference between the 60 and the 65? The 65 is from the 'Vettes and is "supposed" to be stronger?

Second do I need to go with a 80?

I'm plannin on having about 400 rwhp in my Blazer X runnin 3.42's on 285/40R18 about 28 inch tall and about 10 inch wide. I'll run the **** outta it on the street, rarley run the 1/4 but then again every light looks like a christmas tree to me.

I'll be able to do what ever I want to it when I do the conversion I just wanna get it right and I sure don't want to have to keep buildin the damn things, so I'm kinda leanin toward the 4L80 but the weight is a deterrent to me.

I'm not an authoratative answer on this, but my understanding is that a 4L60e level 2 build can eaisly handle 400RWHP as long as you aren't launching on nitrous. What's the weight of your Blazer? Unless it's heavy as **** then I think it would be fine.

I've seen that the 4L65e's are about $3k whereas a level 2 4l60e is only about $1500

Check out the Dr. Evil's at Speed Inc. Obviously a quick phone call to them would let you know those answers.

I would stick with a 60e at that power level. The gearing is better and should be able to handle that power. Best bet is to call some of the trans shope like speed, rock on and flp to see what they recommend for you.

If it's that '03 in your sig, I belive you'll be Ok with the 4L60E Level 2. Might want to get a Level 3 to be sure though. You'll have to talk to a Builder to get an Opinion. Also try FLP (Finish Line Performance). They build a good one also.

The other thing about the 80E is that the 1st gear is way lower so you'd loose a bit off the line because of it. I believe it's 3.06 vs 2.48.

Transmission Ratios 1st Gear 2nd Gear 3rd Gear 4th Gear OD
Turbo 350 2.52 1.52 1 N/A
Turbo 400 2.48 1.48 1 N/A
200- 4R 2.74 1.57 1 0.67
700R4 / 4L60 / 4L60E 3.06 1.63 1 0.7
4L80E 2.48 1.48 1 0.75

I remember reading that GM is gonna come with something like a 4L70E tranny. The 06 Blazer SS should have it.

I'd just get a Rock On Level 5 4l60e and be done with it. For your hp level that would be a piece of cake.

Why doesn't anyone mention either TCI or B&M. Is there something I don't know?

ya..... they suck!!

when TCI or B&M build a tranny, they just just add some hi dollar cluches, a spacer here and there, and some grease and they call it done, but with rockon or century or outher reputible companys they do so much more, these guys have been working on thes tranny for so long they know the tricks to get them to hold, because there is so much more to building a lasting hi po tranny than just slapping in some nice stuff and hope it holds together. there needs to be a certain attention to detail to these tranys. i am no expert, so i am hoping somebody else can chime in with any more info.

what tranny would you rather have one that took 45min to build off a assembilly line, or one that took 2 1/2 hours to hand build?

And you can't really just grab a 4L65E out of a Vette....The transmission is mounted in the rear, to the rear, as a transaxle. So, I'd expect you'd have some work to do to use that in the conventional (directly behind the engine) location (I'd expect you'd have to swap output shafts to a "normal" one for a 2wd extension housing.

Man you know what I totally forgot about the configuration of the 'Vettes.
