Well, the trans fluid and filter are changed. We ran Tech 2 and a line pressure gauge on it afterward. I was in the car (not driving) at this time, the first time I had been in it since I put the stock MAF ends back on, etc. The converter was slipping on and off almost the whole time we were driving it. It was clearly worse than it was the last time I drove it. The line pressure gauge stayed steady within the factory specifications (actually on the high side of factory specs) for line pressure in relation to TPS amperage the whole time. It never dropped during the shuddering. When he drove it back to me tonight, he said it was progressively worse the whole way. It's the worst when you're accelerating and it locks up and you don't lift off the gas, you keep accelerating.
Anyway, I'll e-mail Mike, but from the stories I'm hearing off the board, I don't expect much.

IF the aftermarket/ported MAF ends are causing the problem, why isn't a warning included with the converter that stock, unported ends MUST be used?

Wow. Tell me these converters were not in the October/November batch last year. I've only got about 4000 miles on mine, and I've had no problems except a funky 1-2-1-2 shift sometimes while spinning that I attribute to TM and lack of traction with street tires. I also run the stock, unported MAF.

I bought mine in a T Byrne GP and received it in late August.

As far as I can tell, my converter clutch has almost completely come apart at this point. Based on the continuing flood of horror stories I'm getting in e-mail from other people with the same problem with Yank converters, I figure that no matter what, the problem will be blamed on my having run MAF ends for the first 6 months. There are people telling me that they were verbally attacked for posting similar problems with Yank on this and other message boards. I suppose I'm lucky that the worst I've gotten is lies and condescension.
I'm putting the stock converter back in my car next week, until I decide what to do.

Would raising shift firmness with HPPIII help this problem at all?

Wow, this really sucks! Kristi brings up a point that I've always been curious about - why people think certain vendors can do no wrong!

I think a bad or defective product is bound to happen at times. But the measure of a company is how they deal with the problem. I guess they can just ignore the problem and refuse customer service or stand behind the product, own up to the mistake and make the customer happy.

Sure sounds like people are starting to come out of the woodwork with Yank converter problems. One would think Yank would be concerned about this, especailly the fact their once spotless reputation is now being tarnished. The stories I've read lately and talking with Kristi sure does turn me off to Yank.

If there's a problem with the converters it should be made right. People don't like spending their hard earned money on a defective product and then have the manufacturer be rude and blame the customer for the problems.

I hope these problems are resolved soon, because this is not cool!

Would a Transgo have any place in a situation like this? It seems the issue here is line pressure but right on Yank's site :

Is a shift kit required or recommended?

Yank Performance Converters can achieve maximum performance and efficiency without the use of shift kits. Shift kits dramatically raise transmission line pressure to increase shift firmness. Increased shift firmness will not increase performance, but create unnecessary stress on the transmission and other drive-line components.

It seems to me that the ported MAF ends are causing insufficient line pressure and Yank is blaming that on the slippage in the converter. Wouldn't a Transgo alleviate that problem while still allowing for MAF ends?

Maybe I'm over simplifying this.

BTW, I have a Vig3200, and except for a P0300 misfire SES I get because of a low idle, no problems so far. I love it! (Thanks BradWS6)

Well, if Yank is going to continue handing problems off to the customer's MAF ends and shift kits, they need to put a disclaimer on their website and the websites of their distributors that say ABSOLUTELY not to use this product in conjunction with MAF ends or shift kits. It is not adequate to "recommend" or "suggest" not using the converter with those mods. Certainly not adequate enough warning to be able to say, "We will NOT stand behind this product because YOU chose to install it with those mods."
Their warranty should also state SPECIFICALLY that it does not cover converters used with MAF ends and/or shift kits.

That statement is kinda contradictive because there own built tranny's come with a shift kit installed.

There`s reason places like FLP only use Vig. converters.
I think these are growing pains of a small company that got big too fast. Wasn`t Mike working aout of his garage not too long ago?? (something I heard)

I`m sure on a small scale Yank can do some great things and i`m sure for people like the Colonel Mike personally makes sure it`s his best product.
This however cannot be the case for everyone especially when they are swamped... quality suffers.
I do the same thing, when I`m not busy I take much better care of my customers....when it`s a 100* degrees out and I got 200 people screaming they need airconditioning NOW unfortunately work quality suffers.
