If you are running a higher than stall convertor than I would say def get one, However getting a trans cooler for a stock stalled trans will not hurt at all, If your hard on your car, it would hekp keeping it cooler.

If the cooler is so large that it never gets up to operating temp, then you could have issues.

The typical plate type cooler used by most LS1 owners (e.g B&M Supercooler 19k or 24k) will not induce that problem, but will go along way to controlling temps for those with a high stall or a road race a factory stall. LS1 trannys run pretty warm because of the high factory engine coolant temps and fan settings. Dropping their operating temp by 20 - 40* F still leaves them plenty warm in daily driving and gives you room to flog the car without overheating the tranny.

yeap. Ideally from what I've read the clutches in the 4l60-e grab great around 160-180*. W/ my stock in radiator and external cooler, 160 T-stat, Neil Racing Converter Cooler Cover, my 9.5" Converter never sees over 190 at the track even during hot lapping in hot weather even pushing 4300lbs
