i dropped a solid .4 with my midwest converter and it had more in it just couldnt hook up with it. I have a fuddle 3,800 1.7str on the way. Most drop .5 and some drop as much as 1.0sec. Going from a stock converter to a 3,800 stall you will probably drop .6 or more.. definately over .5 drop.

generally the way i have been seeing it on the board over the past 5 years was that under 3,500 stall would net .5 at the most and 3,500 and up would net .5-1.0 depending on your set up. Na cars will like more stall and generally gain the best times with 4,000-4,400 stall. Superchared/turbo generally gain the best in the 3,000-3,800 area.

Fuddle 3000 here. Dropped 0.45s off my stock converter. Thats 0.25s in the 60' or equivalent of 0.37s over the QTR as a result of the 60' alone. Best 60' before was 1.98s and now 1.71s. The other 0.1s was likely gained in the shift extension. MPH stayed about the same, slightly higher by 0.2MPH.

Would a 3800 stall on my car be over kill for my mods? I have:

Jet Hot LT headers, 3" ORY, cutout, and Random Tech cat back
LPE CAI
160* therm
Madz28 tune
LT4 KM

I thought about getting a 3500 brand new but I think I found a good deal on a used 3800. What do you guys think? Is 3800 overkill, and would it start becoming unstreetable?

What makes you say that? I think the 3500-3800 would be perfect for my mods.

you want to launch @ peak tq. a stall converter allows you to do that. where does an lt1 peak tq? lower than 4k (an advertised 3800 converter will stall ~4k). look at stock lt1 dynos to compare peak tq. i think you need something ~3k. (depending on future plans, cam etc).

3200-3500 is probably normal for the LT1. In the future I want to get LE3 heads etc. I will probably just end up getting a 3200 or 3500.

keep doin your homework, you'd be surprised how much you can learn by searching ONE thing (ie stall or cam) for just a week.

I know a good amount about them. I was pretty much just asking if a 3800 is streetable enough for a daily driver. Normally I see guys with LT1's with a 3200-3500 stall. I run 13.4's so I'll def. be in the 12's with a torque converter.

you running 13.4 with the stock converter? Well i see nothing wrong with a 3,800 stall on a lt1. Just cause he has an lt1 doesnt mean its a junk motor not able to produce ls1 type power. Just means it came with less power than the factory. And yea i know its a completely different motor, doesnt mean squat, you can get just as much out of an lt1 as you can an ls1. Im sure he modded his lt1 and if he gets heads than a 3,800 is even better for him..

Yeah I ran a 13.4 last night at 103.57 on street tires and the stock converter. My next mods will be a TC and M/T E/T streets *on spare wheels just for the track.* I figured a 3200-3800 is good for I want in the future. I can get a Racing Edge 3800 with about 2000 miles on it for about 200 bucks. I have basic bolt ons except for: TC, electric water pump, sticky tires, gears. I don't have a problem beating a few LS1's. I do have to say there are some shitty *** drivers with cars like ours!
