4l60e/3500 stall? will it hold?
Hey guys i was just wondering i am gettin ready to put a 3500 stall in my car and was wondering if the stock tranny will hold the power. It will be pushing about 400HP, and i didnt know if i should just try the stall on the tranny how it is, or if i should just buy a built tranny that i know would hold the power. Let me know what your experiences have been, and what you recomend. thanks!

I had the stock tranny in my modded '99 Camaro SS with a Yank ST3500/2.5 converter and I'm still using the stock tranny in my 'Vette (mods/numbers in sig). You should be fine.

there is no right answer, xtroopers lasted, mine did not. had to have mine built after cam and before i could put a stall in cause it was leaking and hitting the rev limiter. every case is different. put it in and if it is hitting the rev limiter and what not then just baby it till you can have tranny built.

Depending on how many miles you have on your tranny and what condition it's in. You can get a Shift Kit new for under $75.00 and put it in yourself if you have some Mechanical Skills. If not take it to a "reputable trans shop" and it shouldn't be too expensive. The kit will not allow the tranny to softly slip into the next gear there by extending the life of your stock trans(less slip, less heat, less wear on clutches) Just make sure you get a good tranny cooler when you get your converter ! Aside from too much power Heat is the biggest Enemy to an automatic trans.

i had a TCI 3500 in a stock trans with little tuning and no trans go, it lasted about 2-3 months and when it went out it was nasty, took out my whole trans encluding the front pump which was in pieces. but like has been said every case is different. Im now runnign a Fuddle 4000 with a pro built trans and it runs nice, but it ended up costing me over $2600 in the end. i would say build up hte trans and be safe, but thats just my .02 take it how you like

Thanks for all the help guys! I think i will just get the tranny built before i even put the stall in. I can't stand it when something breaks, so i would rather just get it built and not worry about it. Thanks for all the advice once again!

it will hold, but put a trans cooler on and a trans temp guage to monitor the temp. I did the same, but mine blew last year. but the stock 4l60e will go eventually. (but i did beat the living hell out of mine)
