looking for good stall
I've been talking to some people on here and elsewhere and keep hearing dont get anything less than 3000 stall, but I really dont want the converter to be too loose at all and I dont want my gas mileage to go down either. was thinking of the yank 2800. I want the extra kick in the pants but dont want to lose any driveability. I know some people say they dont lose any but I dont want to lose ANY. what do you guys think?

what makes you think you will loose drivabilty? When you start hod rodding your car gas milage is going to go down some...Do you want to go fast or just sunday drive it? With your mods I would about 3600 or better. Do your research and get a good lock-up converter. The lock-up won't reduce the drivablity. In the A4's the coverter is a key componet in getting down the 1320 fast.

My car drives great with 3500. If i had to do it again i would have went bigger. My car still has stock internals also. You will regret going anything lower than 3500 IMO.

well i understand it will be different than stock and i am willing to take that, i just really dont want a converter that I have to rev real high in the rpms to get anywhere. also with the lock i wont have to be at the stall speed to keep going on the highway right? it isnt my sunday car it is my everyday car that is why i want the best converter with the best driveability, I've just heard with real high stalls it is so loose that it is only good to drive when racing, not just going around town.

Well with the lock-up it will only flash at it's intended stall at WOT. Just driving around it will act like a normal converter. Sure the rpm's will be a little higher than normal...I first went with a Yank SS3600, that was way to small. I was haveing a lot problems. Now I have Fuddle 4800 (lock-up) and no more problems. I drive it about 350mi a week.

I have a '05 GTO, with a cam (hpe S-cam) and bolt on's. Because of the cam the SS3600 was way small. On the road I was getting a lot of "lurching". At the track, it just would not stall high enough to keep the motor in the cam's power band which is about 4200-7000. Now with the high stall things are a lot better. Correct me if I'm wrong but with your mods I'd say go with a 3500-4000. Call some of the sponsors -->
and they can set you up.

With a 3500 stall you will experience about 2000 rpms (with 3.23 gears, more with 2.73s) while accelerating from a stop during normal driving. You will get used to it and it will be normal after a couple of hours. Once you reach about 40 MPH with light throttle application, the TCC (lock-up) will engage and you will not experience any loss in fuel mileage, it will drive exactly like stock. Only when you nail the throttle will you experience the full affect of a stall converter.

ok this is starting to make sense and sound good I'll have to get a hold of some sponsors to talk about it more im sure. I am thinking of running nitrous once I finish all the bolt-ons, will that 3500 still be ok or would I need higher. also i guess I am just new to the stall stuff but 4000 and higher seems way up there for an lt1. I know that is getting to its top power but just seems to me to be a high rpm. man I really wish I could just drive one, then all these ?'s will be answered im sure

i am not an expert but i think the lt1's dont react as well with bigger stalls, the do great with like 3200-3800 i believe. i would personally say a vig 3200 would be what youa re looking for, great daily driver and wakes up nicely under wot. yet again just my .02

i thought the actual stalls were supposed to be a bit smaller than the advertised ones? but that is really all dependent on your tq numbers, drive train etc. I will be moving up to prolly a 3.23 or 3.42 gear set-up. and leaning mostly towards a 2800 to 3000 stall. what do you guys think? oh and i read on here that the 3.XX gears made for a 2-series carrier are prone to breaking and chipping. is this true?
monicaz28 is your b/f's car a lt1 or an ls1?

I had an Lt1 car (vette) with 3.54 gear and a 2800 stall Vigilante
just my .02 here but I would stick with the 2800 stall and either gear you have there.
3200+ is good for a stock LS1

I am running a vig 2800 which I understand stalls at 3000 to 3200. Its great for everyday driving barely notice it. If you intend to be at the track often might want to go bigger say a 3500 which is still streetable. I have the LS1 with small cam. Don't go to track that much just like to play in the street.
