Default someone explain a TC to me

The only thing I know about TC's is about launching..
Let me explain what I think it is.

You hold brakes, and rev up engine to rpms depending on stall. A bigger stall allows the brakes(or something) to hold the car at the higher rpms?

Something like that, I never really read about auto's much on svtperformance.com so I dont know much about them.

Also, How come people say their 4k stall is loud for street use?

Ok ll a stall really is (I know this is going to sound retarded) an Automatic stick . You know how if you hold in the clutch you can rev it up? a stall dose the same thing accept its jsut a pre-determined speed. Lets say your sitting at a red light and you decide to launch it hard. all you have to do is plant your foot and the car will rev up like it's in N and than connect like someone droped the clutch putting you in the powerband right away

*EDIT* Why people would say its loud is cuz even if you feather it it will still stall up a little bit(maybe 2K) before it takes off pissing off the neighbors with exhause noise.

Here's a really in depth technical write up on how a torque converter works in general:
http://auto.howstuffworks.com/torque-converter.html
If you don't understand the concept of a torque converter after that you have a learning disability

Now as far as explaining it into real life information the previous post was good enough.

I knew what it did, I just didn't know how it worked. I just knew that it helped launching by revving car up to the determined the RPMs. But now I understand better, thanks.

Imagine if you have two fans, and you put them facing each other. Now turn one fan on, the air being moved by the first fan causes the second fan to move. That's kinda how a stall works.

Someone explained it to me like that once and i've been waiting to use it for a long time.

that's a great site! Taught me everything I ever learned about 4-cycle engines. A year ago I had no freaking clue what displacement was.

What if your taking off normally and you dont want to launch hard? Does it still take off at the high rpms?

Under light acceleration, the car will tach higher then with the stock stall, but you will start moving before reaching the stall speed. It really isn't bad, I got used to mine in a few hrs.
