Question Which One?

Which would be better an automatic with a good stall, or a manual transmission.

depends, for the track auto stall is the only way to go. If you're gonna street race and do it from rolls and all that then the manual gives you an advantage cause you can downshift and pick your gear and all that good stuff.

I wouldn't plan on street racing TOO much, maybe everyonce and a while but I would go from a dig if I did so.....

what mpe488 said. There are trade offs to each and its really going to depend on what you want. If your into drag racing and want to be fast then pick an auto (manual can be as fast but you have to be extreamly good at it, most people say"i know how to shift so i would have gotten a 6 speed instead of an auto" is what i usuall hear when they find out i have an auto and say its better for drag racing. Just look at the quickest cars list and you wont see too many m6's compaired to an auto.. If drag racing is not your thing and auto-x is then you would want a m6 for more controll. If you want to "drive your car" as many say then get an m6, if you want to have more fun jerking around or just knowing that you took the car to a xx.xx 1/4 mile time and you did it and not the computer then get a m6.. If you drive in the city/alot of traffic you will want an A4. If you want good track times A4. If you want consistancy A4. If you dont want to replace parts (clutch/rear) A4. If you want easy driving in the city/traffic A4. If you want to have a free hand to do what ever (eat/play with the radio/drink etc) then get an A4....

The list can go on and on about what is better and in the end its going to come down to your choice unless you have a specific area you are going after like "what trans is best for drag racing" or "What trans is best for auto-x" then there would be a clear choice but in general their the same thing, and no an m6 is not faster then a properly set up a4 with converter/shift kit/programming,, Most think the m6 is king which is not true its more of an ego thing. Watch peoples faces when you tell them you have an a4, their like oh you have an automatic what a waste and m6 is so much better..

Drag racing (street or strip) is a no brainer. A4 + stall is the best way to go. Roll racing, auto course racing or no racing at all is heavily in favor of the M6.

and i always ask why should i have gotten the m6 and its always (its faster than an automatic, or i drive the car you just point and stear) Like i said its more of an ego thing, m6 is mystical and so much better then an automatic.. give me a break you dorks. Most have no clue what a torque converter does, nor do they know about programming it to shift where you want it or the fact that you can shift the automatic if you wanted to.

I get crap from people all the time because I have an auto. But at the track, I never worry about missing a gear. (plus, after tuning my car shifts FAST, I don't think someone could shift a manual that fast).

I also daily drive mine, so the auto comes in real nice for sitting in traffic. The stall makes the car a different animal, I say get an auto w/stall and you won't regret it.

If you want 10 sec time slips you probably will need 4400 stall plus the mods in your sig., also you will need slicks and skinnies or weight reduction.

Auto - 29
Manual - 1

Looks like the A4 has pretty much taken over.
