TransGo questions

I just bought a '98 T/A Auto...I really want a shift kit for it. Here are some questions and thoughts I have though...

-When you install the kit, you just use your stock shifter I'm assuming??? Push the button in and shift???

-I'm in the military, have no access to tools and lifts to do the work myself...worried about a shop installing it wrong.

-Is there any shift kit that works like a ratchet shifter? As in full up-shifting and down-shifting and being able to just leave it in Drive (fully auto)

-Any advice or comments are much appreciated guys, thanks a lot for your time! LS1Tech is the Sh%t!!!!!

Stock shifter; any decent tranny shop can install it; the transgo kits give you more control over your shifts, allows you to pick your shift point manually; Get a stall converter and have a blast with the shift kit.

What base are you on? All three bases I've been stationed at have had some kind of garage/hobby shop. If you find one do it yourself, I did and it was easy.

I'm actually at Whidbey Island, there is a garage here......but not much to offer to be honest. Can you change out the stock shifter??? ...or does that create a lot of work? Thanks guys

the shifter has been changed before, but nothing is made for our cars. You would be doin fab work.

go to the naval sub base bangor i was there 97-99 and they had a nice hobby shop when i was there

don't let anyone fool you...the transgo shift kit is not easy to install. the video is totally useless on cars like ours, your only friend in the event is the written instruction booklet. for the most part it is step-by-step instruction, easy to follow. removing parts was the hardest part for me, but i only had the car on jackstands and hardly any room to work underneath. all of my trouble was worth it, as i love the shift kit. even with a 4k stall and bfg DRs, i cut a 1.70 60' on a dead-hook launch and still chirped 1-2 and scratched 2-3. i did the high-stall/full race install. it was WICKED before the stall converter, it would bark the tires every time on 1-2 over 1,800 rpm, regardless of how much i was on the gas.
