Question converter not locking up

hi guys. i'm running a built 60e w/ tci sf3000 converter. it's has 5k miles on it and haven't had a problem with it, until one day it decides not to lockup in 3rd or 4th gear. computer has been tuned by nelson performance when the trans was installed with the converter.

i took it to my local tranny shop (who did the rebuild and install) so that they could hook up the scanner to it. it didn't set off not one code/no history of codes, and i have no ses lights. i've been reading up and seeing alot of: missfire codes, solenoid, lockup clutch is gone, etc... the trans still shifts and performs awsome as it always did except now it doesn't want to lockup.

i'm stuck on this one. could yall please give me some help/opinions on what the problem could be. thanks in advance...
lance.

Does it happen all the time now? I know that when the fluid is still cold, it won't shift till it gets hotter.

Or maybe your lockup clutch went bad.

it does it when the trans temp is cold or hot. since it started doing this, the temps are running hotter than normal for the weather being cold here. i guess that's b/c the trans is slipping, building heat and not locking up.

That's correct, it's slipping and generating heat. You'll have to pull the converter to see if the lockup clutch is bad.

that's what i've been thinking the whole time. i'm just afraid that i pay the shop to pull it out and send the converter off and find out that isn't the problem.

I feel ya but what would you rather pay for, pulling the converter or paying for a new transmission?

Often, if the TCC is bad you will see discolored paint on the back of the Torque Converter.

It may not be the clutch at all. Have you checked pressure?

I just had this problem - TTP replaced the solenoid and they say it locks up fine now.
I'm going to pick up the car from them guys in a few minutes..

Solenoid's only $40 or something and its easy to replace.

could also be the TCC valve - but thats harder to replace and I believe requires taking off the tranny - but the valve itself is dirt cheap.. labor to R&R a tranny is whats expensive

may be youll be lucky as I was and its just the solenoid!
