I see a lot of you guys are also running 350 tranny's. What is the major price difference in building a nice 350 compared to a nice 400? I know that the 350's are nice but I was just wanting to go with something that could be built for a decent price but hold anything I throw at it. I would be interested in a 350 if I could get one built for a decent price though, I just haven't done much research on them to know how much they cost.

check with Rossler, I just got mine and i must say it is a very nice piece. can't wait to get it in and see what she will do. i am going from a Bult 4l60e and a PY4000E to a Rossler TH350 with a T Brake and a 44-4600 stall. hoping to crack off a high 10 with a 36-3700# car with me in it. and then 9's on a 150 shot. but on the weight issue, it was explained to me as a Th350 and a 4l60E are from the same family, and a Th400 and a 4l80E are from the same family, so i would figure a Th350 is lightest, then 4l60E, Th400, 4l80E. just my opinion, not worth much but there ya go, lol

I had a 350 in my last car...didn't like it because it didn't have an overdrive

Otherwise good transmission.

Mountain, Rossler's 350's are generally a $100-200 more than the 400's. 400's can hold more power, but when your talking a 350 holding up to over 850hp/tq, what more do you plan on throwing at her?

Yea, I know that a nice built 350 can hold probably anything I'm gonna throw at it, I just wasn't for sure the price difference and weight difference between the 350 and the 400. I just knew that the 400 could handle about anything and was cheaper to build but I'll compare them closer when I can get a bunch of info on both to compare. If the difference is only $100-$200 then that's not that much more so that's resonable. I'm just getting as much info as I can to compare them.

Well guys, drove in 3rd today to just see what kinda rpm's I would be running on the highway. I am normally running around 2000rpm's at 60 and in 3rd I was running around 2800rpm's. I have 3.42's in the rear. Does this seem about normal?

Yep. I run 2800-3000 rpms on highway normally, around the 57-64mph range. It kind of keeps me from speeding as much in a way.....until the hammer drops

That's not bad.. My M6 with the 4.10's in 4ht, at 65 is about 3500. I'm going Th400 this spring, mainly because I only put about 1500 milesa year on my car or less, and 1/2 of that is going to the track. Once I get it on a trailer, the mileage will be about 1/2 that. I am going to go with a hughes th400 RMVB with t-brake, and a big hughes n/a stall, probably 4800. Probably be a little loud on the street.. but at the track, it will probably cut 1.5x 60 foot times with my 3600 raceweight car ( might be lighter by then though) ans see low 11's to high 10's.

when you are comparing an a4 to a a3...make sure you arent in lockup when driving in 3rd as you normally wont be buying a lockup th400/350. Mine with 3.23 gears..26" tires and th-400 runs about 3150 rpms for 70mph ....2800 stall

Glad to see that's about the RPM's, not too high. I don't drive much on the highway. I've been doing some research on the lockup, non-lockup tranny's but don't really know what guys are running on the 350/400 tranny's so could someone explain what the major difference is and what most guys run?

I'm putting a TH-400 in my car. My tranny guy told me that since my car will be around 3600 lbs or so with me in it, that a trans brake could trash my 12 bolt.

Default th400

since your car is so heavy you might consider deeper ratios for your trans.

If you want to keep your 4L60E then find a good reputable transmission man and buy the 4L60E rebuild kit from TCI with the HD clutches/steels, and get the HD Drum, the Billet servos, a deep trans pan, and a Manual Valvebody from TransGo... It will hold up to 500+ rwhp/10 sec 1/4 mile passes and you can keep your OD and still shift it manually.

If you plan to go hardcore and dont want to spend $3k on a transmission then build a TH350 or TH400.. Can't go wrong with either of them if they are built right..

4L60E is for the street (300-500hp). The big factor for the street is the overdrive in the 4L60E. The TH400's are for the strip (500-1000hp). Where does yours fit in?

Maybe for a stock transmission. I've seen built 4L60Es behind engines with way more power than that.

This is true for a stock 4L60E. I just rebuilt my 4L60E for the street with parts that can handle 650hp. How much money do you have? We can build a 4L60E that can take 850hp.
