Default 3rd and 4th gone

My 86' 700r4 transmission now freewheels in 3rd and 4th gear; reverse,1st and 2nd work fine. No burnt fluid or debris in the pan. Problem occured suddenly. Any ideas??? Any help is appreciated.

Was the 2-3 shift solid before this? Sounds like something may have broke, instead of burning. Usually when the 3/4 clutches burn, they will give a sign soft shifts or flare a few shifts prior. When the air bleed pops out or snap ring blows out, it gives no warning, it just happens.

3/4 clutches have been a sore spot for well over 20 years now, but the early/mid 80's 700R4 were some of the worst OE setups made. Your definitely due for an upgrade.

The 2-3 shift was crisp before the failure. The transmission was rebuilt a about 10K miles ago (before I bought it). Any idea if I should be looking at the valve body, elecrtical controls, or the main part of the transmission?
