Drivability of the SS3600
Hey guys, i bought an yank SS3600, and i was wondering how the drivability is with this stall, i plan on doing 3.73 gears when i put the stall
in, my car has all bolton's and a fms 224/224 588/588 112 cam, and im going
to do another tune with the converter and gear, my car is just a weekender,
how is the drivability around town? thanks.

Just installed the converter last weekend and it is really nice, it is not going to feel like stock around town but it locks up pretty quickly at about 35-40, probably revs about 800 rpm higher than stock for the same power, obviously not WOT. I really like mine alot and if you dont accelerate real hard from a stop it is not even that noticiable. I do still have the 3.23 gears though. So all in all very streetable but not a stock verter by anymeans.

I agree with Roarin_8. Traction will be a joke without some DRs, at least. I know personally. If you get a good tune, and change the lockup points around, drivability won' t be affected too much. Especially after it locks up. I think around town, to keep up with traffic, I have to rev' to about 2500-2800, until it locks up. Traffic in Sac' means everyone races from stoplights, so it isn' t as bad as it sounds, but, if you tune it to lockup sooner, that will make a good difference.
Tuning is the key, IMHO.

No i have not gotten it tuned yet, I am suprised because after the break in period of 150 miles in town driving, i slammed it to the floor, she pulls alot harder than before but actually did not hit the rev limiter. Might be a different story at the track, but i am going to wait until i get my pulley put on before i get it tuned. So hopefully i can get it on in the next couple of weeks. sorry for the long post let me know if you got any other questions

Ok, confusion has just set in. I am running only a cam, headers and computer program and I wanted to get 3:73 gears installed (3:42 factory) and then put in a stall conv. but now I am reading that it may not be the best thing? Should I leave the gears alone and go with a 3000 stall? Or go with the gears and maybe a 2800 stall? Your advice is much appreciated

My car spends 99% of its time on the street. My current plans are SS3600 and the stock 3.23 gears. Plus with the STR of that converter you will fry any tire you put under there if you change out the gears to something steeper. IMO gears are overrated, just get a good stall if you want to go faster. Definetely go higher (3.73) if you aren't worried about daily mileage.
