Default Mad Dog 4L60E??

Anybody heard of these or used one? I just talked to them and their price looks pretty good. The Punisher 4L60E is guaranteed to 550 horse and it is just over $1600. That includes a tranny cooler, shift kit, stall up to 2400 (would have to go bigger) and shipping. Plus they offer a 5% discount to military . I am going to need a new tranny/rebuild soon, so this looks like a viable option. Anyone have any input or better ideas? Is there a better tranny for a better price out there?

Anyone????? Looking to get the strongest tranny I can but not spend too much. Does this price compare to or beat other built trannies?

Never heard of them. Do you have reason to believe they know what they are doing and will stand by their gurantee?

If you search around you'll come across a lot of FLP, Dr Evil, Rock On, Rossler, etc as the "LS1 tech recommended" companies.

$1,600 is about as low as you could expect for a good tranny. Dr Evil has several different price levels. FLP's level IV is considered very good and goes for $2k, as does the top of the line Dr. Evil. Dont' knwo what Rock On costs but they make some seriously tough trannies. Rossler also does excellent work, but expect to spend the big bucks.

Based on their website and talking to a tech this morning, I believe without a doubt that they know what they are doing and that they build quality transmissions. They have a parts breakdown, and it appears that they use very strong, quality internal components. The owner appears to have years of experience and guaranteed he could build a tranny to withstand 1500 horse. He offers full warranty as well. His top 4L60E is the Godfather 4L60E rated at 750 horse for $1845......and it too includes the cooler, shift kit, stall up to 2400 and shipping. I am seriously considering this product.

Why such a low stall speed? Find out if they can go higher with a supplied converter and what brand of converter they use. Then ask if you can supply them with a converter of your own to be built into the tranny. No sense in getting a built tranny with converter and immediately doing a TC swap.

Exactly. My only complaint was the low stall speed. I told him I wanted a 3400 and he was surprised and concerned that it might be too high............as if that's possible! I would certainly get a higher stall, or supply my own. I haven't got that far yet. I am still comparing prices and weighing my options. But if I do go with them, it will be with a higher stall or aftermarket stall of my choice.

The fact that he was surprised and concerned that a 3400 stall speed might be too high definately puts doubt in my mind as to whether or not he really knows what he is doing.

Given the context of our conversation, I believe he misunderstood my intentions. I told him I wanted a daily driver, so that may be why he thought 3400 was too much. Although I know that there are numerous people who run 4000+ stalls. I will continue to look around and talk to them again. But their website alludes to LS1 cars frequently, so I can't help but think he knows something about them. Regardless, he said they stand behind their trannies, even with frequent trips to the strip. So I will keep them in mind. Thanks for your input though. If I do go with them, I'll be sure to keep you all updated as to my success......or failure with it.

I would recomend you go with a proven 4L60e rebuild, possibly from a sponsor. I had good luck with my FLP trans, but have heard very good things about Rock On, and Rossler as well.

I would get a level 4/5 from Rock On there in Denton/Krum Texas and a Precision Industries 3200 stall standard converter or a 3600 multidisc. Its going to cost you a little more but you dont want to skimp here and be pulling it back out in a month or two.

Yes, there are. I run a 4k stall speed converter and a cam with 13.5* of overlap @.05 as my only car/daily driver....even when we have 7" of snow on the ground. Works for me.

If he doesn't think a 3400 stall would make a good d/d, I'd be worried about his other recommendations. Call Dave at Rock-On and talk to him. If for no other reason than to pick his brain. You'll be 100% convinced that he's the best man for the job after talking to him.

Thanks for all the input....I'll keep researching before I make a decision. I really didn't get a bad feeling when talking to this guy about his trannies.......but I understand everyone's concern. When I make my decision and get my new tranny, I'll post up with my thoughts.
