Default 4L80E build question. what is needed for 800rwhp

I'm having my 408 installed soon and want/need to upgrade the 4L80E. I've spoken to a few sponsors who have both told me i need to buy one of their level 5 transmissions and both had drastically different prices. I also called 3 local places who also had drastically different prices. Prices ranged from $400-$3800.

I was told by 2 local shops that the 80E with a "shift kit" will easily hold 1000hp. one of them quoted me $400 and the other said $1700. Can anyone tell me what I should have done to my tranny to support 800rwhp?

I know nothing about transmissions so be gentle with me, lol. thanks

The transgo kit says that the trans can stand 900hp when it is used. I just went thru mine.

i think you have to do those few internal mods (tranny apart) to get the 900hp rating

I called one of the guys back yesterday. He said he misunderstood what I was asking. For $400 he would do, for lack of a better word, a "shift kit". He said he doesn't drop the tranny for what he will be doing. Something about the valve body? can't remember. He said it will easily support the 550hp i'm hoping to have until i'm ready to upgrade the blower.

Once i upgrade the blower and reach my 800hp goal, he said, yes, he will have to totally rebuild the tranny and it will be in the $1700 range. Now i think i understand.

shift kit costs 90 bux on ebay.....that should hold the 550...a few internal mods and it will hold a good bit more. 4l80 with good frictions/steels....drum...sprag should hold 800rwhp pretty reliably i would imagine.
