Default Trans problem?

My stage four trans lost drive and overdrive tonight after racing a Mustang,
Yea, I left him big time in the dust but now my trans is toast.

The trans has been built for approx. 7 months, should it have lived under street cond. with my power level? Also, this is the second time in the last year it has done this same thing. It was fixed under warrenty the last time and I was told it would hold up just fine no problem. Should I expect it to keep frying the 3rd and 4th clutches or is there a problem that we may be overlooking?

Since the second rebuild it has been driven approx. two to three thousand miles.

Thanks guys!

Is the tranny vaccum mod or electric! Sounds like its not got enough apply pressure you can also scan for codes make sure a solenoid hasn't crapped out! What kind of clutches and bands was used in the tranny?

I know nothing about transmissions but I can list what the receipt says.
I was told this tranny should do fine with my power level?

Red alto performance rebuild kit with kevlar clutches and kolene steels.
Transgo shift kit.
Kevlar 2-4 band.
torque drive kit.
borg Warner 29 element dual cage sprag.
Low & reverse roller clutch sprag.
Super servo.
high output pump slide spring.
Servo release valve.
5 pinion fron planetary.
B&M cooler.

Thanks again!

I'd keep making them fix it where you got it maybe they need to find out your problem so they don't have to keep building it!I will always send my built tranny back to the people that built mine! I would discuss with them your probs and find a solution!

I have been told to try an extra qt when I run at the track because it bounces off the rev limmiter and hesitates to shift into third every once and a while. the car has only seen the track once and that was only a few passes on street tires Other than that it is a weekend pleasure/show car.

To me it sounds like you got shafted on your tranny, but that is just me.

Have you taken your tranny back once to get warranty work done, if not plan on paying for another. Most shops will tell you, your blow or NOS voids the warranty, unless you did trans install yourself, you might be ok.

I had bad dealings with transmission shops on warranty work, the last time I took a tranny to a shop(before I learned how to do it myself) was a 5 speed out of 94 chevy dually, does a lot pulling with a 40 foot flat bed trailer. The rebuilt tranny was in the truck for only 3-4 months, the warranty was 12 months, unlimited mileage. When I took the tranny back the second time this is what they told:

shop- "we found a problem with your tranny"
me- "I kinda figured you would since it was not going into 3rd"
shop- "3rd gear was fine the problem was with low gear" - granny gear
me- "Ok, so your warranty will take of this"
shop- "we can not warranty this transmission"
me - "why is that"
shop- "because the silicone on the transmission is clear, we only use black"
me- "excuse me"
shop- "you heard me kid"

I just lost it and started to cuss them out.

I remember this like it was yesterday, but it happened over 8 years ago. They even had the ***** to keep the tranny for labor of taking it apart. After that dealing I took a class at the local community college on transmission and have done all of my transmissions, and have saved a ton of money. An 80E cost me $500 dollars in parts (Alto red eagle and kolene steels plus new bushings, bands, and complete seal kit), most shops charge between $1200 to $2400 for a stock rebuild. As for the transmission shop that screwed me, they only lasted for 2 or 3 more months after that, and I did not even sue them.

So my advise is, take a course on how to rebuild transmissions and do it yourself, and if you did not see the parts go in then you don't have those parts in your tranny it's just a stocker, but that is how I fell. And for the people that you think are your friends and they work at a tranny shop, well they're not, they are just being nice so you will come back for more shafting (I mean work).
