I say the Vig. 2800 would be a good choice. However you can`t have your cake and eat it too.. the better the drivability the worse the track performance and vise versa.
I have the 3200 and it could be a little tighter..

Default Converter ???

Newbie here and need help. First off my Father and I own the car together, and I can only do mods that will not hurt street ablity. I need to know what kind of converter would be good around town for him and be good at the track for me. It has 3.23 now but not opposed to 3.73 to tighten up a higher stall T.C. Any help on this would be great.

Thanks Paul

Yank ST3500 (with drag radials) or SY 3500 (street tires) with be good choices to consider.

SLP 3300 is not a bad choice too.

Vig.2600 or Pro Torque 2400, with these two converters your father will not even notice the difference in driveability. I have the Pro Torque 2400 in my car and it makes a dramatic difference over the stock converter in performance(4 to 5 tenths better) with the same driveability as the stock converter.

98 Vette A4
Powerloaded
Donaldson Blackwing
172 t.stat
Pro Torque 2400
3.42 Gears

Keep your stock gears and get a Yank ST3200 or Yank Y3000. ST will be tighter but Y won't hit the tires as hard. Great street converters.

First, Thank you for the replys. Second, I have narrowed it down to two converters. The SY3500 or the SLP3300. Of these two which one would give me the best track performance? Would the SLP hit harder off the line? Would the SY make it up at the top end being so efficient?

Thanks Paul

You could keep the 323s in back and go with a Vig2800 and not lose any streetability. I have the 273 and can hardly tell the difference from stock when cruising around town.

Thanks Paul

It will be very close between the 2 choices. The SLP will hit harder off the line, but you'll need drag radials to fully use the hit. I think the SY 3500 will have enough extra mid range to catch it. The SY 3500 will beat it from a roll but will be a bit looser.

I would get the SY 3500 if 3.73s are being considered. The extra gearing will reduce looseness if that becomes an issue and the SY 3500 responds very well to the extra gearing at the track, yet remains easy to control on the street.
