Default Another 4L60E Problem

My friend just got a 2000 Z28 with ONLY 60K miles on it. Just today he lost 3 gear and 4th??? We looked at the tranny fluid to see how it looks and it was overfilled about one quart (Stupid Speedy Lube). Im thinking he fried his 3rd gear clutch. Do you also think that his pressure is too high? Please help

Does the fluid smell burnt? Is it dark? Why would you think the pressure is too high? Has he raised the line pressure with tuning or manually? If not, considering the miles it just might be regular wear and need the 3-4 clutches.

everything looks great, No he hasnt touched the pressure at all. Im not sure if the previous owner has. But i dont understand how the 4L60E could just give out so fast. My 700r4 tranny in my 89 camaro with shift kit is still running strong with 167K miles on it???? Would he need a tranny rebuild?

probably needs 3-4 clutch pack,common for these.I suggest z-pak from raybestos.Hope this helps,ron@brooks trans

could be a tuning problem too, is there a converter in it and if so whats the stall. Anything over 3,200 sends the pcm into crazy mode, meaning it does all kinds of fun stuff cause it thinks the converter is bad since its slipping more then the stock one.. Did you throw a code..

Could have a stuck valve in the valve body or bad or leaking shift solenoid seal. I'd drop the pan and check for garbage in the fluid/bottom of pan. Also remove the 3-4 shift solenoid and check that the piston moves freely in the bore within the valve body. If the solenoids don't have a screen in them, buy new ones at the dealership, only about $17 each.
