Need help installing new master/slave can not find retaining clip..

Need help installing new master/slave can not find retaining clip.. I can not find this freaking clip...I do have a roll bar so it is a little hard geeting under the dash. Can anyone give me a tip as to how to find this freaking clip. I have looked at installuniversity instructions but they are no help..Please help ASAP Thank you..Michael

Do you mean the U shaped one that should be on the inside of the firewall that slips over the ends of the retention bolts for the master? If so pull the carpet back from around the area that the master cylinder bolts. Its black. Have you removed the lower panels from under the dash? It makes it a lot easier to work under there.

Ok I got the retaining clip off but now I am running into another issue....I can not figure out how to remove the u-bracket that is inside the car that is under the master. It has an L piece attached to it that is not letting me pull it over the bolts to remove the star washers behind it...Can I just yank on it from the engine and pull it out??
Re: Need help installing new master/slave can not find retaining clip.. It sounds like the Lpeice is what I was actually desribing above. I think I used a hammer to knock the U bolt out from inside by tapping on each side a little at a time to evenly push it out. I no longer use the star washers. If you try to push one side out more than the other it will bind won't come out. Just wait until you go to put it back in, thats when the real fun begins. I had to get someone to help me by guiding and holding both ends of the bolt through evenly, again if it get cockeyed it will bind and not go in. Once you get that bolt in you are home free!

I finally got the u-bolt out I just took a screw driver and pried the metal clip over the bolt and then cut that damn star washer. Got the master out that was fun at the end the resovior poped out..good thing there wasn't much fluid left in there, then I was able to pull out the master and slave..I will try to install it tomorrow...Any tips on putting it back in????
