Ls1 manual or auto does it matter?
K, There is an auto wrecker in my area that has an Ls1 still the in car. Before I get to excited about it now, it is a 6spd that comes with it and I was thinkin of going to use a 4L60 instead. Does it really matter if the engine comes with a 6spd manual, like can I just buy a 4L60 that throw it together, or seeing how there is a computer involved. Would I be better off just buyin one that was hooked up to an auto to begin with. Like does it over weigh the hassle it would be to make that Ls1 that came with a manual work with an auto?
Any input would be loved here. Thanks

the only main difference that i know of is the computer for sure and i believe the bellhouse will have to be changed. if you do get the automatic throw a torque converter in it while its exposed so you wont have to drop the tranny twice. good luck with your find.

Auto really is a good choice esp if you build it right and this is coming from a M6 guy.
Go high stall, then get a programmer! You won't regret one second of it.
Obvisouly, the M6 car is going to have a hole in the floor pan, but it is nothing a little patch panel can't fix! The computer code is diff. Just take the PCM down to any auto parts store and give them an automatic's VIN. Tell them the orginal PCM burned up.

If you're interested I have a '99 4L60E for an LS1, flexplate, it also has a TCI SF3000 and stock converter, a new in the box shift kit, driveshaft, and a pcm for an A4. Plus all the bolts, etc. I'll trade all this for the six speed. PM your location if interested.

Well A) I am putting it into my Mazda RX-7 (86 gxl) so the driveshaft right off the hop wouldn't work for me.
and B) I live just outside of Edmonton Alberta and I work oil rigs and I am leaving here on tuesday morning for 5 weeks.
BUT if the engine and tranny are in good shape I will make DAM sure that guy keeps them for me. I will tell him that I will take the engine and tranny outmyself.
