Any tips toward the install would be great. Any information you can give me would be very helpful. I need to know what to do to wire the backup lights to work correctly.
Thanks

Aftermarket shifter or stock?
I took the easy way out, I just made a toggle switch for my reverse lights. There's a connector going into the passenger side of the tranny (MN6 cars) with two wires. I just snipped off the connector, ran the wires up through the shoft boot, and hooked them to my toggle switch.
I trid the microswitch on the B&M shifter I have, but it didn't function consistentely, so I made my toggle.

I originally had an a4 tranny. I'm using a Hurst Quarter Stick shifter.

Check this out first.

Chuck @ FLP is building mine and hopefully it shipped yesterday. I bought the BMR X-Treme duty torque arm which should mount to the crossbar welded to my SFCs. That allows me to use BMRs crossmember. I'm keeping the shifter stock unless it won't fit. If it won't I'll go with a B&M Hammer. You need a reluctor ring and speed sensor. You need the PCM tricker or you need to have your PCM reprogrammed. Mike @ MMS changed mine to an M6 program. You also need a shorter driveshaft.
You might need a new rear end too

I just got my car back from a major TH400 conversion...
Your gonna love it...I would get a ratchet shifter if I were you, no use in keeping the stock one...its a lot of fun...theres nothing like "downshifting" next to another car and they don't know it, then you hit the gas and bye bye...

I've got the reluctor ring and speed sensor already. I gave Chuck the part numbers for them. This is one of his lockup th400 trannnies I've been waiting to install since December. I've got the driveshaft, BMR Xtreme Duty torque arm, BMR crossmember I had the prototype , I"ve got the hurst quarter stick shifter with an air shifter solenoid, and a MBA billet shift ****. I also bought an M6 console and have LS1-edit. I'm using a 9" rear. All I really need to know is how to wire the brake lights so I don't have to put them on a toggle switch.
Thanks

Actually *I* have the second TH400 crossmember brett from BMR ever built. He built an original one for TimZ28 that the holes were a little off on so Tim measured and brett made him another one that worked fine. Months passed and I decided to do a TH400 as well. I got the original one from Tim that was a little off and sent it back to brett so he could make a jig for it and voila he sent me a shiny powdercoated black crossmember for FREE (well I did purchase his trak-pak tq arm/subframes and some LCA's) Anyways good luck with you install. Let us know how that lockup is working for it. I wish I had known about that when I had my tranny built.
iateyourcat. I would not recommend using the stock A4 shifter for the. First of all you have to fab up a bracket for the shift linkage on the TH400 and it's a PITA. Secondly shifting it with the stock shifter sucks on the 1-2 shift you have to push in the button on the top of the shifter to shift and then from 2-3 you can just pull it back which leads to missed shifts my buddy used his stock shifter and missed lots of shifts going from 1-3 instead of 1-2. I would definately get a ratchet shifter of some sort.

Thanks MacGyver. I thought I had the first one. When Brett made mine he said they planned on doing it in the future but he could fab me up something lol I guess there might have been some other hand made ones out there before he started mass producing them. I've had the damn thing 6 months or more and haven't even test fit it yet. I hope it fits.

Derek,
Mine bolted right in. I did have to slightly elongate the hole for the tranny mount but I think this is because when brett took the measurements from tims car tim was running an adapter plate from yank and that puts the tranny about 1/4 inch or so back from bolting up directly to the block like I did. So my uess is that if you're running an adapter plate that you will not have to elongate the hole and if you arent running a plate you will.

No adapter plate here. Those things are crap in my opinion. Looks like we'll have to modify my bracket. I'll test fit it soon and find out. Waiting on the engine now. 2 more weeks and it should all start coming together quickly.

Hey Tim,
The heads were supposed to ship today. After that its mostly just shipping time. Nick still has to get my intake back from the coaters. It will probably be 2 weeks when I start putting stuff together. I have a lot to do. I need to pick the car up from the body shop. Put the interior in it. Stick the tranny in and do a gear swap on the rear. All that should take plenty of time until I get the motor. I don't anticipate finishing in 2 weeks but I'd like to at least get some of the little stuff finished. It shouldn't take any time to get the motor in the car its going to be the tuning that takes forever We're closer now than we've been yet so thats always a plus
