You have to remember something...
A built 4L80E can still take ALOT more torque than a built 4L60E;
They each have their pros and cons, there's a place for each, each has it's own context.
Those dudes are talking about 9 or 10 sec 1/4 mile times, 800+ HP or 1000+ HP, nitrous, some serious stuff;
the extra weight of the 4L80E in this case is irrelevant;
just compute the weight:power ratio of their cars with 100lbs difference and see what I mean.
He's not arguing with you, he is just stating his experience, and experience is more real than bench racing, right...
So don't let that worry you.
For the average Joe's 400 HP daily driver, a built 4L60E fits the budget and works fine and reliably; this is what I would go for in my daily driver (and save money).
Regards
Joe

agrees with my 4L60E Technicians Guide (I love the artwork in this).
I'm just a DIY so I don't pull them apart everyday...

the 60 is just the series of it, it has nothin to do with actual TQ holding capacity...If it were that would then people with strokers wouldn't be ripping them out for a 350/400 setup...They would just go with a perf. build 4L80e....Cuz not too many streety cars, or cars on this site are making 800 lb/ft of tq.....
The reason why the tranny has 2 sets of planetaries are, because it is cheaper than having one, and having to engineer something to disengage something, and engage another part inside the transmission so having 2 set sof planetaries allows the transmission to have less parts, and be more compact...If you understood how planetaries worked, you would scratch your head at first as to why it's a 4spd, because out of one planetary gearset in the 4L60e you can get 5 forward gears, and 2 reverse gears out of it...confusing but if your in an ASE Tech Certification program, it is easier...

with the addition of the tcm for the 6 speed, would there be any other tuning needed? do you think my hptuners would still work for programming the transmission??? has anyone heard how much powa it can handle???

according to gm stock they will handle 664 ftlbs oof turque. however im sure once they make a shift kit that number will go up. and as far as converters the corvette stlyle will have the same lock up plate as the 4l60e's and the northstars will have a stock twin disk lock up so they will handle some power. as far as computers i know that in 05 up the programs where altered because my scan tool wont even recognize the cars so you will probley need another stand alone unit for it. the only prob with the 6l80 e now is the only bolt patterns are the special one for the corvette one and one for an ecotec/ northstar but it looks as though it might use the same bolt on bell housing as the late model 4l60's
