Default shift harshness from idle to D or R?

I dont recall if this is normal or not as this motor/trans came from a car i only drove a few times. The motor/trans are in a mustang right now so maybe I have some wiring wrong or maybe it just needs fluid run through it for a while. I put a new filter/pan gasket on and put new fluid in it. I cycled between park/rev/drive to cycle fluid and drove it a bit. It shifts fine at part throttle but at idle if i shift to D or R from idle it'll hit kinda hard. The RPMS arent high either, like 675 or whatever the computer is commanding. I have HPT so I can change things but I just dont recall the firebird these came out of hitting this hard on shifts to D or R.
Any input is appreciated

Thanks
Dave

Are you using a MAF sensor or running in speed density? If you're running SD, some of the earlier pcm's command full line pressure all the time in the event of MAF failure. This would cause the trans to slam into gear. I had this problem on my '98 and had to email my .bin file to HPTuners to have this fixed so I could run mafless. If you're using a MAF.....not sure what the problem is.

yes i have the maf plugged in. I have no MAF codes either. only code I have pertains to the alternator. Im thinking maybe cause i havent let the computer learn yet and the fact i dont have any exhaust on it other then shorties right now combined w/ the fact i just changed the filter/fluid it needs time. Or maybe it is normal? I dunno

I replied on chitown but I guess the site is down for now.

When mine was stock I don't remember it jerking hard when shifting from park to D or R...it has a 3 washer transgo now and kicks a bit, but my idle is probably 200-300rpms higher than yours as well. It's been a long time since I was in a stock LS1, but all the other convertored cars I've been in have kicked a bit when shifting out of park.

Do you know if that transmission is 100% stock, and how many miles are on it?

Some DTC's will raise the line pressure to either max or a predetermined value (30 psi); you will see this using a scan tool, clear the DTC and the line pressure goes back to below 5 psi at idle.
